Mario 1 and Mario 3 were the two games that made me want to create my own games. Or actually back then I just wanted to do Mario clones.

I never got to play Zelda back in the days. Which is a bit of a shame. But luckily I still have my NES (it's actually plugged to the TV) and all my NES games. Maybe someday I'll get me the Legend of Zelda.

Favorite NES Game:
Super Mario Bros. 3

I can play this game over and over and it never gets old. I still have the official Nintendo strategy guide for the game. Hell, I remember watching The Wizard just to see Fred Savage play Mario 3. The game is, from top to bottom, a masterpeice in every respect. Mmm... such memories.

Favorite Console:
Super Nintendo Entertainment System

Just the sheer number and quality of good games on this system makes it an easy pick.

The NES had a bunch of cool games... But I think my favorite is still:

TMNT!

I like TMNT 2:The Arcade Game a lot better. One of my ultime favorite games.

i think this came out toward the end of the NES' cycle - but it really showed all the great stuff you could do on it. i loved sucking up other enemies and using their powers. it was pretty easy but really fun.

on the opposite end of the difficulty spectrum: TMNT - good lord, that was hard. i was torn as a kid - wanting to play it because, hell, its NINJA TURTLES but on the other hand i think it was a little out of my league, and probably still is to this day

One game that immediately came to mind was StarTropics. Awesome game, kinda like old school Zelda with an island theme to it!

That's right. You really needed those extra hearts.
Shame on me i never completed it, stuck in last dungeon.
I'm one of these guys who thinks Zelda2 was brilliant, too.

Excellent mix of adventure, rpg and almost ghost'n'goblins like action.
Quite an audacious move to change the gameplay after Zelda1.
Something you can't say of the new Zeldas, which basically rehash Ocarina.

I never had a nes and I find it hard to really enjoy the games becuase of the ugly colours and the blinking sprites, that said, I played the hell of Adventures of Lolo 1,2 and 3 on emulator.
I am more a fan of the very early consoles such as atari VCS and intellivision with their blocky graphics and interrupt colours they games had to be so simple that they were almost always reaching the hypnotic zone.

Oh my god.

I was hanging on there and I saw the thread

"Hey, it's three pages long, Aww... I guess it's late already"

(Browses 3 pages of nice games)

"WHAT! nobody has posted about it already!"

So, guess what game is my favorite? guessed already?

I'm gonna nominate Blaster Master as another one:

I like it so much, I even started playing around with a (fake) remake. :P

Those drawings are very nice, and I think a Blaster Master remake would be great. Though I'd rather play an unsanctioned "sequel" with a new layout and maybe some surprises. I found the real sequels pretty disappointing. I loved playing the game again every few years, leaving the NES on for two or three days, and getting a little farther than the last time I played. I think I reached the last area once, but not the last indoor part.

I'm working on a game right now that's inspired in part by Blaster Master.

I'll resist listing a bunch of titles here, but my single favorite NES game is probably Crystalis.

I've got to throw in with the Super Mario 3 camp when it comes to my favorite NES game, but RCR would be a close second!

@wourme:

Thanks!  Actually, I wanted to do a sequel, but with a few areas that are familiar from the original game.  The idea is that Jason Frudnick, the original "Blaster Master," has become mutated himself after so many battles with the Plutonium Boss.  So you play as his assistant and you have to track him down in the next evolution of the SOPHIA Nora!

Final battle starts with a side-scrolling SOPHIA vs. SOPHIA fight, before Jason Frudnick escapes into a cave and you have to fight his mutant form in overhead view! Kiss

Can't wait to see your game, though!  And Crystalis is an AMAZING game.

So's RCR.

Well, most of my favorites were mentioned already (RCR, Blaster Master, Kirby's Adventure, Faxanadu) but I also liked Ufouria. It had a nice flavor.

Unfortunately, the NES was before my era, so I've only encountered any games through emulation.

Yeah, Ufouria! Grin

I always get Ufouria mixed up with Gimmick! or Mr. Gimmick!, which is another great Sunsoft NES game.  You guys should all try it out, it's pretty sweet (and pretty tough):
