A Multiplayer Narrative Adventure game exploring the Global War on Terror based on accounts from U.S. soldiers and Afghan citizens.

Hey TIGSource, we're working on a game that approaches war in a different way. The Sun Also Rises has some cool features that I think you all will be interested in. We’re early in development and plan on updating here as much as possible.

Here's our teaser trailer:

Story/Characters

We're presenting the story through a series of vignettes. In each of these segments you play as a character and experience their story arc. We have 3 planned characters at the moment: the combat medic, the CIA analyst and the Afghan boy. Each of these characters is connected and their story developments impact each other.

The Combat Medic

Stationed in a US Forward Operating base in the Helmand Province of southern Afghanistan, this character's daily job is to get his fellow soldiers to safety when injured and maintain the health of the local Afghan civilians. He goes on patrols and has no visible distinction from another soldier to avoid being targeted. It's his job to ensure good relations with the local populace and attempt to get information about possible Taliban in the region. His story will bring players into the struggle between life and death, and what it means to be at war.

The CIA Analyst

Located in the US, her job is to interpret the intel that comes from Afghanistan into missions for the military to carry out. She also has to face the difficulty of being a woman of authority in the US military.

The Aghan Boy

The son of an English/Pashto interpreter that works at a US Forward Operating Base, he has spent a lot of time around US soldiers. He comes from a traditional Afghan home and has a family and life outside of the military world. He has begun to study at the local madrassa and is conflicted with what he is being taught about the soldiers and his experiences with them.

Passive Multiplayer

All of the characters in TSAR are interconnected and their decisions impact each other's lives. The choices you make in the game are saved to a server and will change the game for a future player. In contrast to other choice-based games, there's never a game that you'll start without having another player's actions influence your playthrough. This will make the game constantly unique. We chose this mechanic because it represents military structure. Each person's job on all levels, impacts the lives of countless other people that they've never met before.

Dialogue System

We've dubbed our dialogue engine the Natural Conversation System because of how we're attempting to represent real conversation. Rather than have a character say something and then wait for you to choose from a list of dialog options, you pick from cues in their dialog as they actually talk. Your choices to respond are in real time, including abruptly interrupting someone or remaining silent. This changes what they will say to you, and also how they view your character and what they represent.

We'll be keeping this devlog updated with new stuff. For now you can check out the website here:
