I haven't used Construct a whole lot, so I can't say how reliable it really is, but it should be just fine (at least, soon enough).

If GM or Construct is indeed sufficient to meet someone's goals, and they don't mind using those tools, then I think they probably should just use that. But if we're assuming that the person actually wants to program the game, and has a good reason for wanting to, then that person is very unlikely to ditch programming completely.

I started with visual basic/FORTRAN and C++, but now that I've used Python I can see how it would be a good one to start with.
