Happy now?

Curse whoever started this! XD

edit:
The weird thing is, I'm decreasingly familiar with people addressing me as Hayden. Even professionally people have started to know me as Dock, and that's what my girlfriend calls me. Haha.

editedit: but I still like my real name XD

Dock Scott-Baron would be a pretty good name. Get it changed!

I'll get in on this too.

If you google my username, which I use for everything online, I'm the only thing that shows up.

If you google me, you get: A German soccer player and a crappy filmmaker. Hooray!

Be glad your name is not a combination of "Uwe" and/or "Boll".

Insert obligatory "I'm so indie I was doing this before it was cool" meme.

I'm still split on this, though.  I signed up using my real name since I wanted to be closely associated with whatever works I post here.  Unfortunately it also means a complete lack of anonymity - stuff I may think is passable now might be outright embarrassing down the line or scrapped entirely when I realize it won't work, which is why I'm hesitant to post works in progress.  Make a poorly worded post or put up a sample of your work that you change your mind about and there's no way to disassociate yourself from it.  There's certainly a degree of security in operating under a pen name and it might allow people to present ideas and games that they otherwise might be loathe to have see the light of day.

That said, it is hard to associate your real life self with the works you post online when you use a pseudonym.  I can't imagine Nicklas Nygren walking into a job interview and saying "I'm Nifflas.  I'm from the internet."  If he publishes a book or gets a job in the mainstream media people won't immediately recognize his name, but if someone posts "Nifflas' new game!" on a forum people will definitely get what's being discussed.

Really, there are pros and cons to both approaches.

Well my username is just my real name inverted anyway. It's an old "thing" I've had, people close to me have called me by this "nickname" for years now. Googling my actual name doesn't yield anything useful yet, so no need to go by that name yet.

Still not my real name.

And I barely know anyone now, quite a few, but only for their avatar.

Because a mod stole has the same name as me.

Or maybe my name really is Bill Nye.

Why would you compound this by changing your nick to something other than Imp or The-Imp? It makes no sense to me that people would deliberately change their username to look like a real name when that isn't their real name. And then to top it off, to complain about not knowing who everyone is!

Once a pseudonym has become known to the fanbase, it might be more important than your real name.

On the other hand, it gives this forum a more professional look if people use "names", not just gibberish.

I second those who want less name changes, though, it starts to get confusing.

I had no idea I was a part of this.

Hooray alien mind control!

My name is remarkably unique. You just get some old forum stuff I did. It surprises me because Erin Gardien doesn't strike me as particularly original or unusual.

...Why did this thread appear as if it had new replies?

Well since I'm already here: I'm under the impression that a nickname is easier to remember than my real one. After all the Finnish Akseli Tarkkio is fairly exotic to the rest of the world.

I don't see why some people regard handles as "unprofessional"... We didn't get to name ourselves when we were born, so it should only be right we get to do so now.

I'd change my name to Xii if I could but I do not think that's possible, because it's not a Finnish name.
