I was never fit. But during the last year of my doctorate I gained 10 kg (22 lbs) and that shit's not fun at all. I am trying to get it together but for the past 6 months all I accomplished was not getting fatter. I can't find a decent gym in my new city and eating is difficult here. Moving to a new city always comes with a long adaptation time.

Focus mostly on cardio (running, swimming, biking, etc) and get a nutriologist. I had to rely to one and was the best thing i could have done.

make sure ur nutrition person is an actual dietician though and not a quack nutritionist who reads a lot of blogs and tells you to eat uncooked beans because of enzymes

another story: I think I went through ketosis regularly while I was eating a lot of gluten since I wasn't properly digesting it. When I rationalize that, it almost makes sense that I could build muscle and have major issues at the same time.

I suggest as a starting point a mediterrain diet or the zone diet (the American one), they are one of the 2 suggested diet by the medical community, then you modify it by your taste or intolerance.

i dont think those diets are suggested by medical community. I think bunny guy just wanted to say he eats a lot of wheat products that leave him unsatisfied.

Used to eat wheat. I would have probably been healthier eating hay if I couldn't digest wheat.
For unrelated reasons I was involuntarily regurgitating food at night, early ages and eventually I had to discover the reason for that too.
But thanks to eating wheat I've become mildly allergic to many proteins.

Rabbits are herbivores that feed by grazing on grass, forbs, and leafy weeds. In consequence, their diet contains large amounts of cellulose, which is hard to digest. Rabbits solve this problem via a form of hindgut fermentation. They pass two distinct types of feces: hard droppings and soft black viscous pellets, the latter of which are known as caecotrophs or "night droppings" [32] and are immediately eaten (a behaviour known as coprophagy). Rabbits reingest their own droppings (rather than chewing the cud as do cows and numerous other herbivores) to digest their food further and extract sufficient nutrients.[33]
