I'm a software developer who really wants to create a game from start to finish, mostly for personal development and to diverge from the normal office job. I loved games since I was a kid and it's a small childhood dream of mine to release a finished game, even if it does poorly. Here's hoping I get there!

Hey folks.

I've been making games for a few years now, but I'm yet to release anything professionally and beyond a game jam.

I want to change that. So recently I decided to pause my pursuit of an industry role in favour of going solo and using tools that feel more appropriate to 2D pixel art games such as Godot and Aseprite.

As a programmer first, my art skills are limited. I've settled on a low-res 16:9 1-bit 8x8 style for the time being as it's within my capabilities and in the near future I hope to increase the complexity. My style tends to be of a chill/muted colour background with a white or off-white foreground.

Another angle of my new approach is that I wish to move forward without social media. I long for the web of old and PHPBB SMF forums like this are my jam. Similarly I've been putting effort into showcasing my work on my own website.

Anyway...nice to hang out with you all Smiley

Hello, all! I'm Szalámireaktor, your friendly sentient cognitohazard!
I'm doing game dev to solve two problems:
1. I've spent entirely too much of my life doing nothing of value, and
2. I have too many ideas, and there's a pretty solid chance that I won't be able to pass on to the afterlife if I don't make some of them into games.
There's also the small fact that I enjoy making games, but that's not really relevant.

As for how I've gotten into making video games, that's something of a mystery to me. I haven't completed a single video game in my entire life (yes, really!), so me going into making video games is akin to a rat trying to learn how to dance. Sure, it could do it, but it's going to take a hell of a long time for it to be any good. I'll try my best anyways; at the very least, I'll end up with something I'm proud of.

I've mostly played party games like Mario Kart (can you believe we've been stuck on 8 for 10 years?), Ultimate Chicken Horse and Mario Party. Recently, I've dipped my toes into actual games like Rain World, ULTRAKILL, and Bug Fables.

Expect some esoteric games from me. Please. Disappointment is a powerful motivator, and god knows I could always use some more motivation.

Hello dear friends. I'm a web developer by trade, but my passion was always to write games. I'm a big fan of horror. Some favorite books include: "The Terror", "The Outsider", "Who Goes There". Have been working on an indie horror for few years now, and it feels like I'll never finish it :D

Hello, my name is Rafal and I am programmer who is trying to learn how to write mmo game.
My approach is to take make small baby steps, choose trivial solutions as the first options and save optimal ones for last.
This way I would like to learn how to use technologies properly instead of using ready solutions without much understanding why.

Hi, my name is James. I'm trying to develop some slightly ambitious projects. I am primarily a C++ programmer and I am always interested in a lot of the new language features and what not. I am not good at art and eventually want to find someone more art oriented to team up with. One of my favorite games is Factorio. You can play a simple Ballz clone I made here in your browser: https://bigshadydog.itch.io/break-n-bricks

I made this account specifically because I saw someone here ask for a game demo that I happened to have on my computer, so I was gonna reupload it for that person.

I do have a few game ideas, but when I tried looking up Unity's official scripting tutorials back in 2017, I discovered it was all either "this is the vague idea of what this command does" or "this is an entire little game that we won't bother to explain how all the code works together," topped off with the occasional now-removed YouTube annotation that said "actually, we changed how code works, so now you gotta type this instead, and we still won't bother to explain anything about how it works or why the change was made."

So yeah, I gave up when I realized I wasn't actually being taught anything. It felt like they expected you to know how to code already, and all you needed to be told was the basic trappings of C# specifically. Maybe someone here knows about some actual good tutorials for an absolute beginner like myself? It doesn't have to be Unity; my ideas could work in Game Maker or Godot or whatever. I remember reading a VisualBASIC tutorial book called something generic like "Coding for Teens, Volume 2" which used Interim Nation's Human Update as background music for its games, and that book at least felt like it was teaching me: each chapter would only focus on one command, explain how it works, then end with an example program using only the commands it taught you up to that point (it took until chapter 6 or 8 for the example program to be an actual game: Arkanoid with text representing each object, and it was called Textanoid). Does anyone know any tutorials like that but for modern engines?

Hey, I'm Fox!

I'm interested in low poly / retro web games. I was inspired by some Unity games and started learning it. It's pretty fun to use once you learn the basics.
I want to publish something hence this intro.

Hello, my name is Burak. I've been developing games for about 4 years now. I recently lost my job, and instead of finding another job, I decided to chase my dream game. I'm using the Unity game engine. My favorite game genres are Roguelikes/Roguelites. My favorite games are Hades, Moonlighter, Brutal Legend, Catherine, the Persona series, Wizard of Legend, and Sunset Overdrive.

Hello!

I've had a brief look through this forum and already it seems like a lovely place to talk about games freely. I'm keen to talk games, try games and share some of my own projects.

My name is Ben and I'm a 28yo designer/animator living in Australia! I love to work on game development in my spare time and I am just about to complete a degree in Animation & VFX! I dream of releasing a sick metroidvania one day Beer!

This is me on a bicycle in Vancouver, Canada -circa 2022

I post game projects here: https://oshstudio.itch.io

They are mostly just entries into the last few Ludum Dare jams, plus a couple of personal projects. I'm currently working on the final project of my animation degree, which is also going to be my first ever 3D game. The goal is to make all the assets from scratch to flex what I've learnt over the last few years. You can check out my progress so far here: https://oshstudio.itch.io/bit-bot-demo

My passion for gaming has been there for as long as I can remember, the earliest memories are playing Red Alert or Half Life on my dads PC. I like many different types of games, but the defining games of my younger years would have to be Minecraft, or the Halo series, specifically Halo 3, which is my favourite game of all time, mostly because of the memories with friends. In general I just enjoy good games, some of my favourites include Hollow Knight, Dark Souls III, Metal Gear Solid V, and more recently, Animal Well & Balatro.

That's me!  Shrug
