Hey folks. I'm cheating a little, because I did post under a different name for a while when the TIGForums first got set up, and I somehow drifted away. I never properly introduced myself, so I guess I should... My real name is Chris and when I'm not working or sleeping I'm usually gaming. I grew up in the heydays of the Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum and Amiga, but even now the C64 is the only retro computer that has a special, fluffy place in my heart. I didn't discover any of the wonders of console gaming until I found out about this weird thing called "emulation" many years later. Lately, despite having my soul stolen by World of Warcraft, I keep a close eye on anything that's retro and indie. Sometime I even blog about it if I feel the urge. I like games that reward exploration and aren't horribly linear, and especially games which are different every time you play. Yep, I do enjoy some Roguelike fun every so often I'm a big fan of atmosphere in games, too, which is why Within a Deep Forest and the Knytt games are amongst my all-time favourites. Aquaria is nice in that respect too. I currently use BlitzMax as my programming weapon of choice, and over seven years of hobby coding I've managed to produce two dazzlingly average games, Poing! PC and Millenipede. If you really want to see how rubbish they are then the best place to look is on my blog at www.zolyx.co.uk Think that covers it. I'm probably going to end up being a lurker more than a poster, but still, there are some cool people here so it's funky just to hang out in the same general part of teh interwebz. Good day to you all

Hello gamers and fellow developers. I just decided to register on the site after the Spelunky release. Anyway, I'm a huge fan of independent games. In fact, I rarely play the mainstream ones anymore. I also love Pen and Paper RPGs and a good story. I am a Nintendo-boomer and have been playing games of every shape and size, ever since. I especially like RPGs and simulation games. I graduated from college with my BS in Computer Science, and minor in Spanish, in 2006. Currently I work as a full-time web developer. Currently, my favorite indie games are: Dwarf Fortress Cantr II Incursion Noctis Eternal Daughter I've recently been working on my own Persistent Browser-Based Game (am I allowed to link to my own projects?) called Faery Tale Online, which is inspired by Cantr II. The biggest feature will be the inclusion real family systems (the first MMOG to do it, that I know of). Anyway, I hope to see everyone around here. And thank you, Derek Yu, for the great games - you're a pioneer! Sweet, another PBBG prorammer :D and just last week I was asking whether php games were included in the "indie games" category, but I suppose that's just as much a yes as any game. - Natso

Hay guys I just want you all to know about a great opportunity to get a FREE PS3! Just kidding. First post, so I figured I'd drop it in the Intro thread. No pictures or cool game stories like if you read the beginning of the thread. I read the front page of TIGSource every day, and I love playing the competition entries. This last one was so damn cool that I figured I'd finally sign up for a forums account. Is there an in-joke FAQ? There are a lot of memes going on here that I'm not quite aware of, haha. Also, happy new year.

Sorry, haha. I like your "Verge" game, by the way. Sorry to hear all the meme-happy kids saying 'Cave Story', etc. It's definitely a cool game and doesn't evoke Cave Story at all, in my opinion. How silly.

Well hello there, I'm Peter from Hungary, been lurking around for a while now, finally found the Reply button I do all kinds of gamedev-related stuff, most importantly I'm editor of a Hungarian community site very much like this one - so I came here to stole some fancy ideas Also, I'm proud member of a pretty big team making a world-changing mmorpg-ish game, which we obviously never gonna finish, but still like working on it. I'll talk about that sometime. Now with the new year and everything, I wanna start making some awesome games - I almost entered the Commonplace Book compo too, but then I didn't. So beware

Hi there, Lumin! Your project sounds really interesting. I'm not much into the fantasy themes, but hey, you can't have everything. And the fact that apparently it won't take more than 10m to play the game each day is a big plus for me. Apparently there's an open Beta coming up... so, should I still attempt Cantr, or should I wait? I remember trying to do a strategy browser-based game after high-school. I had to "invent" matrices (we weren't taught about that, it hit me like an epiphany), so you can imagine how that went Anyway, I love the visuals on the website! Really looking forward to seeing how it works out! Thanks for checking the game out, and for the compliments. I need as many people as I can get who are interested. Obviously, players are the key to any MMOG's success. My goal is to get the game launched in a month or so. I'm really pushing myself to finish things, but there's always unforseen complications in any development project, so we'll cross our fingers. As far as Open Beta goes, I'm going to do a mass email when the game goes live. Players will enter the game on a first-come, first-serve basis. Since the game is spawned with players from parents in-game, obviously "Open Beta" is a little bit deceiving. It works in my favor, however, since I can fix early bugs with a small player-base. Anyway, keep checking the site so you can be one of the first in line, when things go live.

Hey there Lumin! Thanks for the reply! I do not want to get addicted to anything right now, so I won't join the forums, but I have subscribed to the newsletter. I'll be waiting for it when it the game launches! I am also curious about a couple of technical things, so at some point maybe I'll join the forums and bug you some more! Do you know games like the StarWars Combine or Shadows of Isildur (RolePlay Intensive MUD)? Is this going to be anything like it? Thanks again

Hello, I'm Del Duio and yes this is me attempting to play Hemispheres . I've been into programming some type of games pretty much solidly since 1987 or so. It all began with Apple IIc/e BASIC and slowly went to Visual Basic 6 in 2000. Then I heard about MMF and have been hooked ever since. I'm a giant fan of the bands Rush, Primus, Midnight Oil, and Southern Culture on the Skids and played for years in my own rock bands for fun and little money (just like the indie game scene, wow!) I've always been about trying to do every aspect of a computer game myself- code, graphics, music, story / writing, etc- for better or worse. I find making computer games to be one of the most rewarding hobbies of my life and when someone else actually likes one of mine it's a great feeling. I grew up on Atari games and took the computer chips out of their carts on way more than one occasion to see what made them tick. Of course all this did was ruin the things eventually haha. I've been really into RPG and Metroidvania games for a long time and some of my favorites are: Legacy of the Wizard, Super Metroid, Gemfire, Ultima Quest of the Avatar, Crystalis, Castlequest, Wizards & Warriors 2 Ironsword, Castlevanias include Symphony of the Night, Dawn of Sorrow, Aria of Sorrow, Simon's Quest and Dracula's Curse. I guess that it, sorry it took me so long to sign my ass up here

You guys have funny smiles. I respect that. The weird looking person you see above is Simon. He is me. This is how he want to look like/think he look like/dream of one day finding a lover who look like. (note, Simon can't draw, but don't tell him that!!) Now, Simon isn't, since he is located in Sweden, the best english-speaker, so he apologises in advance and hope that you will forgive the lack of grammar he will surely show. Simon likes:Morbid humour. Math. Metal/HardRock/Punk. Old point and click adventures. Simon don't likes:Pineapples. Most Fps's (He's HORRIBLE at them!) When someone points and laughs at him. People who speak about themselves in third person. (actually that's not true. He love those guys!) Simon probably likes:You.

Thanks again Although I've never played it, I would say it's much closer to Star Wars Combine than a MUD. However, Faery Tale Online will focus more on social communities, rather than trade or mercantile. Also, FTO has no back-story or graphics. The story and mythos is created completely by characters. I plan to have a "story book" feature that will track major events by characters and post them chronologically for all to see. If you haven't looked at it yet, check out the FAQ page for a list of features.

Hai! I'm...well you can tell from my user name, I'm a student in New Zealand (look it up ) I've been lurking here for quite a while but i've finally managed to find the courage to register...(Harsh critisms in the feedback section?) I'm currently "developing" in flash learning as I go (hey! it works for me!) and i'm making a sidescrolling shooter, though it's development is quite slow. Thats all you really need to know about me really. * *Yes I'm a parentheses fan! PS. What on earth is that image when i logged in ? a homage to the epic post's thread?

Oh man! so, I'm Jeshi, if you have studied Japanese for like, 3 days then you can probably figure out what my real name is based on my internet alias. I'm an Aspiring Artist, Unfortunately I'm cursed by aspiring to be an artist in so many different fields and then only being good in the fields that I don't want to make a career out of(I can't draw but I sure can write! except I really want to tell story's through a Graphic Novel not Literature D: ) I don't have any recent photos on me(plus I'm still messing around with how I want my hair to look before I'd take any photo to represent what I look like in general) My background with games... My first console was an N64, but that doesn't much matter to me :/ It's not that I'm a Nintendo Fanboy but that Nintendo has shown to release more games that I'm interested in then Sony or Xbox(But there are occasional games that pop up that make me go "Oh I wish I had a Ps3/360", Littlebigplanet and Braid for instance) I don't exactly remember when I first played an Indie game, but I do remember that the first time I played Cave story I was attempting to play it without the translation patch(And failing because I didn't expect it to be plot based) so I got the translation patch and had fun being the only person I knew that could pronounce the Japanese name correctly (It's not that hard, I learned proper Japanese pronunciation in less then a day :/ A is always like in Father, i is always ee like in Me, u is always oo like in Moo, although it isn't always spoken like Desu is pronounced Dess, e is always eh like in kettle, and o is always oh as in "Oh! My Father got me a kettle that says Moo on it for Christmas!" Thus, Doukutsu Monogatari is pronounced Doh-koo-tsoo Moh-Noh-Gah-tah-ree, and you never put emphasis on any part not the middle or anything just say it all even.) BUT I'M GETTING OFF-TOPIC. One thing I really like about indie games is that usually they're not made in installers but rather, in self-contained folders, which I like because then I can take them with me on the go via flash drive! =D! But obviously what I like more then that is how innovative and fun they mostly are, some indie games I've played are WAY WAY WAY better then some commercial games I'm played (After Xmas I now have 4 new commercial games to play and 2000 wii points to spend and I instead I spend 5 hours playing spelunky and warning forever) I guess this is long enough of an introduction of myself. OH YEAH! PLUG! Also Simon an English tip, You don't need to speak in 3rd person like that, if you're referring to yourself say "Now, I'm not, since I'm located in Sweden, the best english-speaker, so I apologize in advance and hope that you will forgive the lack of grammar I will surely show." instead of "Now, Simon isn't, since he is located in Sweden, the best english-speaker, so he apologises in advance and hope that you will forgive the lack of grammar he will surely show." Unless you were trying to be funny, which I would usually assume you are but I felt the need to say this anyways since you made that comment about not having good English skills.

Jeshi, I'm pretty certain that McAirwaffle is aware that he doesn't need to speak in the third person. On the other hand, though... Now, Simon isn't, since he is located in Sweden, the best english-speaker, so he apologises in advance and hope that you will forgive the lack of grammar he will surely show.
...you can help him by giving him some grammars, since he seems to need a few. Sorry, you guys. And welcome, bunch!
