Hello, everyone!

I’m André Marí coppola -  born in Argentina, half Italian half Spanish, living in Japan (that’s a cultural mess right there).

I’m a game designer, sprite maker, conceptual artist and musician for our little development group “Evelend Games” (http://www.evelendgames.com/) where my brother and I focus on creating the games we always wanted to play based on our past experiences of our childhood on video gaming.

Most of my influences come from playing on my PC/Mac (Monkey Island, Sim City, The Neverhood, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Little Big Adventure, etc) and Ness games, and my love for the pixel as a complex art form grows each day.

Being an artist, I do have a Deviant art gallery (http://toen.deviantart.com/) that I’d love for you to check out. I update it as regularly as I can. As for my music, again I’ve gone for the usual and uploaded songs to Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/toen and Bandcamp: http://andremari.bandcamp.com/

As far as the games I’ve worked on, they include the music and art work for:

Pixelry(http://www.desura.com/games/pixelry)

Super Tower Rush (http://www.supertowerrush.com/)

And other little projects:

Principia Mathematica
http://www.evelendgames.com/2011/11/new-title-principia-mathematica.html

Serenata
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/31195548/Serenata.zip

And that’s it! I'm really excited to be here!
See you around Smiley !

Greetings, everyone! The name is Victor Davidsson, commonly know as Dragon Walker on most website.

I am a 20 year old Swedish student at KTH Royal Institute of Technology studying IT engineering. My true passion is unsurprisingly gaming and I intend to become a professional game developer once I am done with my studies.

I have been an avid console game collector ever since I got my first Game Boy Color back when I was 6. At time of writing I got over 360 games, but that number will most likely be very outdated soon. I am an omnivore when it comes to genre, though I tend to favor JRPGs, Bullet Hell, Run & Gun, and most games that are different and unique.

I have been doing some spriting/programming as a hobby for a few years, and compared to most on this forum, I am probably a true greenhorn.

I am currently working on a game called Bounty Runner, a Shoot 'Em Up Bullet Hell game, which I consider to be my first real game, seeing as I pretty much learned how to program from scratch while making it. Sadly it has been stuck in development hell, due to a mix of time constraints, lack of knowledge and interest from others and sometimes pure sloth. Signing up here is an attempt to change that fact and finish the game once and for all.

I am sadly a chronic lurker (Heck, took me a week just to get around to write this post!) which is a quality I also would like to rectify by, once I have posted my game in the Feedback Forum, try to actively communicate with anyone interested in my project, as well as regularly update. So if I am being too silent, kick me in the rear.

Pleasure to meet you all.

Hello, my name is Brady Held. I am a game developer based out of the Los Angeles area. After graduating art school I worked as a 3D artist for Pandemic Studios, Luxoflux (Activision), and WayForward Technologies. About three years ago I started the animation division of MABA Media.

We began as a forensic animation company, doing 3D recreations of car accidents and other unfortunate happenings for trials. A little more than 6 months ago we started working on our first game, Journey to Camel-Lot. We just started a Kickstarter for the project a couple days ago and it seems to be going well!

I am excited to converse with you all, and if you have any questions about my game or company, don't hesitate to ask.

Hello Everybody, I'm happy to be a part of your forum.  My name is Michael; I'm a programmer and all the other things you have to be to try and make your own video games.  I'm also a gameplay/AI developer at an undisclosed video game company during the day! Very busy!

I recently completed and am about to release my most first little puzzle game called "Star Drop".  The game uses a stable subset of my own game engine's various features.

I have a website at http://www.bruteforcegames.com where I have bunch of screenshots and will soon be starting a gamedev blog, review site, and built in community features in support of the STAR DROP community!

Lots of plans and hopefully I find a lot of cool inspiriation here among peers.

Thanks!

Hi, I'm Neal Nellans founder of a mobile studio called Tiny Utopia located in Austin, TX. Been seeing more and more amazing threads and thought it might be a good idea to be part of the community and start getting some feedback from other devs.

Little bit about me, I started in computer animation, I won an academy award for a short cartoon I made in 1998, then I started working at Dreamworks SKG as a environment modeler on a project that later became Medal of Honor. The interactive division of Dreamworks was later sold to EA and I worked with them on one Medal of Honor title before I decided to go independent. That was way back in 2004, and I've been in visual effects of video games in different capacities ever since.

I founded Tiny Utopia http://www.tinyutopia.com in 2009 and started doing mobile games in between my PC projects. Been working mostly on 3rd party stuff in Europe for the past few years, but I'm finally getting back into mobile. I released a game on Feb. 4 called Epic Mech Wars, which is a turn-based combat RPG. It was good to get back into programming and try something that was out of my comfort zone.

I'm currently in the middle of a project I'm calling Soda Star. Just about completed a playable demo, so I'm really excited to preview it here at TIGsource and get some early feedback from you guys that are down in the trenches. Thanks to Derek for organizing a great community and allowing devs a place to share all their work and exchange feedback.

Game Designer for Artizens

« Reply #5986 on: February 16, 2013, 02:20:07 PM »

Hi everyone, my name is Charles Amis and I've been a game designer in the industry for about 6 years now.

I started designing games when I was really little, playing outside. I usually played with my two next door neighbors, so I had to come up with 3-person variations of a lot of sports and other games. That got me hooked into thinking like a designer, asking why certain rules existed, modding card games, and just generally being interested in these magical systems that pump out fun.

I didn't really get into video game development until a lot later. I went to graduate school at NYU, took my first game design and coding classes, and knew right away that this is what I wanted to do. I got an internship at Gamelab, worked on Jojo's Fashion Show 2 and the licensed Top Chef video game, and then worked on Gamestar Mechanic for 4 years. That's been the bulk of my career so far. In my spare time, I've designed two sports: Chamball and Hunter-Gatherer, both of which won awards at outdoor game festivals. I've also designed a collectible card game, a game for touch screens, a little rhythm game, and a single player co-op game for #GPCv5.

I've been playing games since I could learn rules and grew up with the start of the consoles. My favorite video games over the years in no particular order have been the mega man and X series, final fantasy 6 and 7, xenogears, Shin Megami Tensei series, Monster Hunter series, Suikoden series, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, Silent Hill series, Valkyria Chronicles series, Valkyrie Profile series, terraria, minecraft, the recent X-COM, Uncharted 2, Portal 1 and 2, and a lot of more obscure games like ZoE: Second Runner, Shadow of Destiny, and Odin Sphere. I also love traditional card games, Magic: The Gathering, a bunch of board games, and outdoor games.

I quit my job working on Gamestar Mechanic last year to start a company with two of my friends. We hired three other guys as well and started work on our dream game, Artizens. We've been developing it for a year, launched a kickstarter campaign last month which was successful, and now we've got some money to bring it to its alpha.

I don't have a website of my own, but my professional life revolves around Artizens now, so artizensonline.com is where info about what I do now can be found.

If anyone is thinking about incorporating or raising investment or anything like that, I can tell you what it's been like so far. I'm also open to design questions or giving feedback on things. I'm pretty good at responding when I'm messaged directly or emailed, so if you want my ear, just let me know.

Looking forward to diving more into the forums.

Hey hey hey!

My name is Keith Nieves and I am a game designer/programmer and everything in between. I am a one man studio going under the moniker of "thatPhillyDev". I spend most of my time working on my current project "Resonate" but when I am not, I'm usually playing something interesting. I am also the Treasurer of the Philadelphia chapter of the International Game Developers Association. Essentially what this all means, is that I’m neck deep in making games, studying games and most importantly (as a designer) playing games.

In the next couple of weeks myself and a friend of mine are going on a road trip to GDC. The trip is going from March 14th to April 9th and we have stops planned all around the country (Seattle, Portland, Chicago, Boston, LA, SF, San Antonio, Atlanta, Gainesville, Asheville and tons more!) We have plans to meet up with developers (Indie and Commercial) in all of these areas to talk shop and expand our network further than just the local ecosystem we have grown in. We are also hosting a bog where we will be putting up pictures, videos and (daily) blog posts about the trip while we are on it. Feel free to check it out! (http://sojourn.quadratron.com)

My experiences in the industry include: releasing my own games, interning at Cipher Prime Studios and working on various projects that my colleagues make. I guess you could call me the Boba Fett of the local Philly game development scene. Something like that.  I have a blog of my own that shows progress on personal projects as well as a couple of other projects I am working on with some of my close friends. (www.thekeithnieves.com) Here you can find pictures and blog posts about some of the projects I'm working on, musings of game design and feedback, and a bunch of other stuff!

It seems like the forums don't like the picture I tried putting up of myself so here is that:

Here is a video showcasing the first level / 5 stages of Resonate:

Hello everyone!

I'm Arhi Makkonen, an starting game artist from Finland. The main intrests of roles in making games are concept desing, scripting, graphic desing and team leading. My childhood games are still big inspiration to me, like Ufo enemy unknown, Dune 2, Monkey Islands, Final Fantasy 4-9, fallout 2, etc. Pen & paper roleplays also have been close to heart whole my life.

I hade been intersted of indie gaming and making games whole my life. I started making pixel art to finnish indie games about seven years ago. After I started to make liveroleplays making pixel art and games steped off a bit. Im studying now web media in Karelia University of Applied sciences where I started again to make games. First I made lot of card- and board game concepts and some playable ones. Now I have been made one web game with flash and new projects is coming on.

Check out my game, Password, in adress: http://kotisivut.edu.ncp.fi/~1001200

Greetings, all! My name is Aaron and I'm a composer based out of Dallas. I've been a gamer for a while now. It's hard to say what my favorite games are, as I sorta bounce around. I was most recently blown away by the Metroid Prime trilogy (a bit late, I know, but awesome nonetheless). I'm also getting my MMORPG jollies on Lord of the Rings Online (Aruthil on the Dwarrowdelf server if anyone's up in there).

I've been doing concert music and film projects for some time, but I'm trying now to get a chance to work in games. In fact, I'm proud to say that my score for a Dallas based indie film won "Best Score" at the Boston Sci-Fi Film Festival last year. That same film is also the first Dallas-based film to go 3d, and it's currently in a limited theatrical run in the city. My masters degree was in interactive computer music so in addition to normal one-off or looping tracks I'm also looking to find a developer that needs some awesome non-linear music for their game. Here are a few recent demos I've made for your listening pleasure:  https://soundcloud.com/aaronfryklund/sets/game-music

Cheers!

Hi my name is Zenas Bellace.   I am a computer nerd, electronic music enthusiast, avid gamer, and a budding game developer.  Having studied computer science at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, I wasn’t quite sure what to do with my education until I started working on my own games a few years ago.  Gaming had always been a passion of mine since I was a wee lad and it wasn’t until recently that I put two and two together and decided to make that passion my work.

Together with a few other passionate developers, I founded QuadraTron Games (http://quadratron.com), a casual collective of (not always so) like-minded developers, who frequently work together to provide mutual support for each other’s game development aspirations.  I am also the Secretary of the Philadelphia chapter of the IGDA.  The development of my first game, Monsters!, wouldn’t have been possible without the help and support of this awesome community of developers.

I've been working on a game called Monsters!, my first fully developed game.  It's a 2D dual stick arena shooter inspired by Robotron 2084.  I'm very much psyched to be very close to releasing it, probably by the end of the month.

I'm also a founder of a small indie record label called Zenapolae (http://zenapolae.com), which releases ambient, dark ambient, experimental, noise, and other very strange forms of electronic music that most folks would probably never understand.  Wink

I'm very eager to start meeting more folks from the greater indie game development community.

Hey everyone! Sebastian here, from a little Chicago based start up called Haptix Games.

Like everyone here, I too grew up playing games and dreaming one that that I'd be able to make my own.  Over the years I've acquired the necessary skills, but the lack of free time has always killed the dream.  You sit there, coding or doing art for long enough and eventually it sticks... and here we are!

We've been chipping away at our first game, H2FLOW, a cool little water based physics puzzle game for pc / mac / ios / android / potato.  We took our inspiration from the "Worms" series by Team 17 and "Where's My Water" by Disney ... and took our own approach to it.

Why indie? Because at the end of the day I make games for me, I want to make fun games, I want to follow my dreams.  As long as we can afford it, we're indie all the way.

You can check out some info at our www.indiedb.com/games/h2flow page.  Our main site is getting an overhaul at the moment.

Why am I here? The big boy publishers are making it harder and harder to get noticed.  Death by obscurity is a terrible fate for any game.  You poor your heart and soul into it, and then it just disappears into the ether of the internet... a sad thought indeed.

Hopefully by teaming up with the rest of you, we can work together and make sure all of our games get the proper exposure they need to succeed!

Man, I sure wish I saw this thread earlier! I've been wanting to post on here for a while but was a bit intimidated for some reason, and couldn't find anywhere very appropriate to introduce myself, so I finally posted some of my pixel artwork in the relevant thread just to get things started with me. Sorry if this seems terribly long.

My name is Sam, and I am 17 years old at the moment. I'm from Los Angeles, California.

(this picture is god damn terrible but this post felt dreadfully generic with this image http://25.media.tumblr.com/33515ed67a99849f53fab365ec99a1db/tumblr_mg11deKARO1qafgdoo1_1280.jpg)

I'm pretty new to making myself games, but I've been attracted to the idea a lot lately, seeing as it's a whole interactive artistic format in itself, and I've been looking for a whole lot of ways to express my creativity after starting to finally draw about exactly a year ago. I used to play a whole lot of games when I was young, but got real bored with many new releases over the past few years recently, so I started spending my money elsewhere (often on vintage electronics and stuff for videomaking). A year or two ago, I started getting back into video games, getting only a few every now and then, and a lot of the games I found myself having fun with were indie games.
Indie games weren't a new concept for me, and I always thought they had quite the potential to be great, but after seeing so many people taking the plunge to make the kind of game they'd like to play, I started wondering if maybe I had any ideas myself. After a little bit of thinking, I found that I had a lot of ideas that were very executable, and after pondering about some of those ideas, I started putting together concrete and full game concepts.
I thought 2D pixel art would be a good way to begin since it's both simple to make work and can still be very elegant, so I started messing around with that beginning in August, and have been working hard at practicing it and developing design concepts with it.
After coming up with several ideas for full games, I decided to put together a simple game that I'd like to make, wouldn't be so difficult to design, and would also be fun to play. I'm currently working hard at that project, and while I don't have a programmer or any programming skills myself (I had tried teaching myself XNA before when I was 14 since I've always been good with logic and math and such, but after lots of procrastination and being unable to come up with any good ideas, I gave up), I'm trying to work on it as much as I can until I have all the resources and design done and maybe catch people's interest while I'm doing so so that I can get this project made.
I also started attending certain events near me (like Indiecade) and following a whole lot of people as I started to realize that this whole indie game scene is real exciting and really interesting for me, and It's also given me a whole lot to do myself.

TL;DR: I have never made a game before, I'm still quite new at making art, I'm working on designing my first game at the moment and I hope to make good friends and acquaintances here as well as get some help and criticism on my own work!

Here's some stuff I've been working on for the game I'm trying to make:

Hey All

My name's Chris Roberts and I've been trying to scrape by making my first game for a while now. I started an indie games studio (is it a studio if it's just me?) called Survivalist Games, and after an insane year and a bit of programming, drawing, worrying and head scratching I've finally finished it.

I've been destined for a career in games since I was a nipper and the first time I realised you could actually do it for a job I've been focussed on that. I grew up messing with Deluxe Paint and Amiga Basic, and then have added all kinds of fancy new things onto that list over the years.

More recently, I worked as an environment art lead on an ill-fated project called The Outsider for Frontier. We got so close to hammering this insanely detailed and dense city together for it that it was a bit of a pain to let it go, but ultimately I decided to go indie because I wanted to sample all the finger pies available to me. When I'm creating artwork I crave to be programming and when I'm doing the techy bits, I crave a good modelling or texturing or drawing project.

Anyhow, I've got a website set up for the company at:http://www.survivalistgames.co.uk/

My first game Shelter is now for sale on the Windows Phone Marketplace (I'll do an announcement post later), and I'm trying to work out how to get anyone to buy it and let me make another.

P.S. Thought I should add some pretties to the post

Oh, welp, I guess I still have to go through here. So yeah, I'm GBolt
But out of the internet I might be better known as [NAME REDACTED] (hah, try saying that right without me being physically there with a rod punishing your mistakes) and I try making games (haven't succeeded yet). I don't have games I'm commonly associated with, so the avatar will have to suffice.

This is how I look when I'm at a GGJ.
OK, I can't really look while I'm sleeping. What I
meant is that this is what I look like when I'm at
a GGJ.

I got into games through my uncle who'd make me play games on his PC. I played gems such as Prince of Persia (a bit late), Wolfenstein 3D, Outrun and some driving game with a quite limited palette which I believe was pretty good for its time but I played quite a while after its time. I enjoyed those games, because, well, I was a kid, that's why. Not surprising. But it wasn't until I casually played A Link to the Past that I was struck with admiration. I'm looking like a douche talking about this game for the yet one time, but considering it's the game that made me want to make games, I won't skip on it... it was admiration. For the game, and for the people who made it. Everything was perfect, and I got so much into it that I actually managed to finish it. Me. Who managed to complete the first world of Super Mario Bros. one out of four attempts. That's how much it got me. So much that even to date if I just accidentally load it up I'll probably come to my senses a few hours later when I'm at some random dungeon in the dark world. That's how much. Considering this is, according to me, an interactive thesis on how games should be (granted, there are equally good games that have been made, but at its time this was the shit) I won't even add other games.

Other games that I've enjoyed as much are, in no particular order, No More Heroes, Bastion, Portal, VVVVVV and maybe something else that I can't recall at the moment. I know, I'm pretty mainstream.

A curious thing, what got me into the indie-game-make-a-doodle-doo community was my strong desire to visit the GGJ 2011, which had me try to learn to make basic sprites in two weeks. It appears I succeeded, in that the sprites were very basic. And it happens that it's still what I do, to date.

I'd like to make a pretty much complete game, and then another one, and another one... and so on, until I have enough experience to make the game. The game that will be as good as ALttP s. I'm not asking for much, can't expect it to be the same as ALttP when it came out. I'd be happy if it's going to be as good as ALttP is according to today's standards. And then keep making those.

That was (a quite monotone) me. Over and out.
