Hi, I'm Dualnames. I'm a very active AGS forum member, and what I should be known is that. I also made a couple of games using AGS, including a remake of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy to a point-and-click adventure.

I also do barrel rolls.

Hello, TIGSource!

I'm savagewhimsy, a misguided American college student who writes and makes art. In addition to my tangible art, (paintings and sculptures mostly) I also love to make sprites. I picked up that hobby in the sprite comic community when I was 11 years old, and I have Derek's Pixel Tutorial to thank for the evolution of my sprites from crappy Megaman frankensteins into full-blown scratch sprite sheets! I can't believe it's been 8 years already... I feel old.

I was originally drawn to the indie games community for budgetary reasons, but immediately fell in love with its spirit of innovation and artistic freedom. I began to develop a "library of respectable indie games" in my C:\Games folder, downloading any game I felt needed to be preserved for posterity, whether I enjoyed the genre or not. Said folder is still only a meager 12.4 Gb in size and has plenty of room to grow.

Some of my favorite indies include, but are not limited to: 8bit Killer, AOFAD/Au Sable/The Hunt, Barkley Shut up and Jam: Gaiden, Black Shades, Bushido Edge, Cave Story, Devil's Tuning Fork, Dwarf Fortress, EnviroBear2000, Hard Time, Igneous, IVAN, Last Winter, Legend of Princess, Lugaru, Minecraft (!!!), Mud and Blood 2, Okkuplektor, ROM CHECK FAIL, Spelunky, Torus Trooper, and UnReal World.
( Shocked That turned out longer than I expected, and I even trimmed it a little!)

This post is starting to get a little long, especially considering it probably won't ever be read, so I'll cut to the chase. I've been trying to teach myself some basic scripting and playing around with Game Maker, Box2D, and the like so I might be able to someday make the games I dream up a reality. It's a slow moving process, as my skills are really more on the writing/art side of things, and the only coding I've ever done was on a TI-83 calculator. I'm hoping maybe one of the compo themes will inspire me enough to learn a whole game's worth of coding, or that perhaps someone more on the technical side of the community might be moved to collaborate with me at some point in the future.

There, I did it. I'm no longer a lurker! One step closer to making my romance with the community less one-sided! If you have actually taken the time to read this, thank you.

To whom it may concern, my formal introduction:

I haven't been lurking long. It's only just recently that I learned TIGSource even had forums (I first came across TIGSource a while ago when I was reading up on Tim Langdell). I have been lurking on GameDev for a while, but frankly, saying GameDev "community" would be too generous a statement. Not that I have anything against GameDev  Roll Eyes, but it's not quite the same as what TIGSource has going here (that's a compliment)

If I had to choose a main interest in game development, it would have to be programming, but I have an almost equal investment in design and I am slowly developing my pixel art skills to a point where I think I can almost stop calling it "programmer art." I've developed a number of personal projects over the years, though I haven't released anything as of yet. I am in the middle of a project that I hope to see through to release, so we'll see how that goes.

I come to thee with open arms.

Hi!
I'm Alexey Izvalov, I'm 25 years old, I'm from Ukraine.

Programming games had always attracted me since I've got a computer, being a 1st-course student. But until now I just created games for fun and to show them to my friends. Many of my previous games were left unfinished because I found another idea to be more interesting, or because I couldn't find an artist among my friends.

But as for my current project, CardWars, I definitely made up my mind to develop it to the release stage. Currently I'm collecting feedback about the playable beta.

I like strategy computer games, such as Civilization (I registered under this nickname on civfanatics.ru forum more than 6 years ago, that was my first appearance in the Web), Victoria, Starcraft, Rome: Total War.

My current avatar is dr.Livsi from the Soviet version of Treasure Island cartoon.

Hi,

I first learned about TIGSource during the Assemblee competition.  I found the lo res pixel art to be inspiring.  I began to try some pixel art myself, starting with some animated 8x8 sprites.  I am now confident enough to try putting together a simple dungeon crawl in MMF2 in my spare time.

I am, at heart, a writer.  (If I'm known at all, it's as an essayist and haiku poet.)  My favourite games are RPG's, and I would like to use the genre to explore some ideas I have about narrative and character development.  Some of the projects announced here like Telepath RPG look interesting, and I hope that someday I'll progress to the point where my projects will be, too.

Hi,

I'm ashamed to say that my first post on this forum was an advertisement for a game (to spark up interest from potential contributers, not to sell anything!) and I've only just found this thread. Embarrassed

Anyway I regularly read the TIGSource blog and have always loved indie games before I even knew the difference between indie and commercial. I'm interested in game development, particularly gameplay design and soundscape design, though I've never made anything beyond some experimentation whilst trying to learn Construct and musical contributions to open-source projects.

I'm a big fan of atmospheric side-scrollers like Super Metroid, Ecco the Dolphin and Knytt. My favourite indie company is Wolfire cos their blog is awesome.

If I were to design my ideal game it might be a 3D first-person action platformer (a la Mirror's Edge) set entirely in the sky, aboard giant airships, zeppelins and floating cities. The player would have full freedom of movement, with non-linear environments, and exceptional climbing and jumping skills, but being in the sky you would often have to battle strong winds. There would also be some combat of some kind, but you would always be massively outnumbered or outgunned so it would be extremely tactical and you would have to run away most of the time.

I've also always wanted to make an enormously detailed and huge sci-fi sim with both flying around in space and running around on planets and in cities. It would take a development team of hundreds at least a decade to make (and might also be massively multiplayer).

Yeah I'm a bit of an idealist, to say the least. But that's me! Hello!

{hopefully this is seen}

What up, name is DayeWilliams and I'm here because I've become fully immersed in the indie realm. I just finished a couple of books of programming, but am truly a writer but felt in these times of innovation it's like "hey might as well try a hand in programming", most of those books kicked my ass but it's all cool. Since this is a introduction thread, I got to tell you stuff about me, huh. well;

I'm from New York City (not the cool parts you see on t.v with the ancient tourist blinding us with their disposable cameras)

I'm Black (i think they call it African American in this country, right?)

Music Lives on Forever, I'm very universal so I my music playlist is strange (after A  Tribe Called Quest song, a song off GunGrave's soundtrack might come so I'm very selective who I let into my iPod)

a bit of a Legend of Zelda-o-phile...aren't we all, I'm not expecting to hear anyone say "Zelda sucks" on here. I believe Ocarina of Time is key to anyone's roots but the best Zelda is A Link To The Past and that says a lot. You understand if you passed out from exhaustion and woke up near you're Super Nintendo.

Hipsters are the coolest thing.

yeah, I kinda indulge in Marijuana-gical Arts (hopes this isn't a big deal to the Mods) without It i'm normal but dude..eff Normal in the butt.

The World Ends With You is my bible.

I mention'd I was Black right.

RPGs are dying..and I'm sad. I love FPS, shooters are cool but...we have toooo much and I sorta feel less like a gamer when I'm cursing out some little kid from Florida over Live.

Fallout 3 saved the Fallout franchise, and as much as I believe in "owning your shit" Interplay sorta molested it's own child by releasing Fallout on the PS2.

I tried to start an RPG dev team...I gotten my nuts kicked harder trying to build that than in real life.

I visit D-Toid daily. (Destructoid)

I'm SquareSoft's last child who was abandon & thrown into the game world forced to endeer the hardships of learning to play games of other genres.

Yes, I am Black.

I ended up being a novelist somehow, don't ask me about it though, I'm super-compulsive and kinda sorta insecure, but I will bring up my 1st novel for small talk.

big Kingdom Hearts (1) fan, and yes I'm one of those "Final Fantasy 7" douchers.

Story is everything

So there you go, definetly will be on TiGSource (forums..alot), expect to see some new stuff from me (& if not ask me about it, as a jumpstart) I'm Daye, less of a programmer more of a designer/writer/concepter and I believe video games will save humanity.

p.s Warren Spector is the man.

I was told to introduce myself. Whoops!

So here it goes:

I'm a programming ex-gamer so to speak. I'm employed at an electronics giant where I program experimental user interfaces and other stuff, nothing too exiting gaming wise though. Even though the games I made helped me land that gig.

As I am approaching my 30ies (Yeah yeah I know!) some of my other aspects in life have taken me away from gaming but not from the fun of making them, as this is a very neat outlet to my creative urges.

I like retro-styled stuff, and I like games that don't take me more than 5-10minutes to fully grasp. Like I said time is scarce, but even so I never found certain games that just require you to endlessly grind very appealing. I like my short bursts of skilled gaming.

And that's pretty much it.

Oh: I also rant a lot -- like you haven't noticed yet.  Wink

Hiya Smiley

I'm Mr.Mog, a 21yo Game Design student studying in Melbourne, Australia (which, save for Tasmania is pretty much the ass end of the world). I also do a show on the local GLBTQ radio station (JOY 94.9) about video games and other nerdy things, though it's currently off-season.

I'm very much interested in the design side of games, seeing how people constantly find new ways to entertain, convey messages and generally push the medium always excites me. Currently working on a game of own in my free time which will hopefully one day see the light of day. At the moment my focus is on improving my pixel art skills.

Don't really have a specific taste in games, basically anything that isn't space marines will at least get a look at, though I am quite partial to RPGs.

Please be gentle Tongue

Yo!

My name is Joakim and Im from Sweden. Games are a pretty big hobby of mine but I never made one myself(at least not yet). I remember a couple of friends making games in klik & play about ten years ago but I was never involved. I like all sorts of games but mostly 2d action-sidescrollers(Alien Hominid, Turrican, Gunstar Heroes, Mega Man, Metal Slug, Shinobi and Ranger-X for example)and Sega Mega Drive games, but I also like 3d action games, racing games, good old arcade style games and shit.
I got my eyes open for Indie games when I heard about Alien Hominid and has since then found alot of cool indie games. I especially like indie games that don't take themselves to seriously. My three faves are ALien Hominid, Enviro-bear 2000 and Mountain Mainiac as they are great examples of games that are both funny and fun to play. I don't know shit about art and Im not particulary bright or cool. So yeah...

Peace out homies!

Hey I'm Mac, 20 and in school for software engineering.

I've been gaming my whole life, starting with NES as a 2 year old and getting a SNES when I was 3. Zelda LTTP was *the* game for me, and to this day remains #1 favourite (yeah, even above OoT Tongue).

I don't really remember how I got into indie gaming, I remember playing Uplink back when it was released, that would have been my first indie game. I always downloaded the "random" games no else had heard of. I love indie games because, though you need to sift through them a bit, there are some real gems that offer a fresh and unique gameplay experience.

My name is Jesse Zoeller, I'm from Ohio. I have been into gaming for as long as I can remember. My day job is a software engineer. I have always loved programming and games. I have messed around with creating some simple games and have recently started a 3D dungeon crawl game.

Jello, my name is Austin DuBois and I am 20 years of age. I did not go to college because I felt like it was a waste of time for what I what I wanted to be. I love photography and filmmaking, those are my two biggest hobbies. I've been a gamer all my life. When I was younger my friends and I talked about becoming game designers and always talked about the games we wanted to make. The aspiration of becoming a game designer kind of died off, but I never stopped thinking of ideas for games. My main goal is to become a filmmaker. But as of recently I've been thinking to myself, "why not make a game, you could totally do that". So I've come here to do just that. I would love to add that skill to my list, and hopefully produce some kick ass stuff in the future. I'm here to learn, and from browsing through the forms for two days I see that this is the best community for that because everyone is pretty fuckin awesome.

As I read back through this to make everything was spelled correctly, probably missed some stuff, I not only noticed that it was incredibly scatter-brained but I hope I'm not coming of as an asshole. I don't want it to seem that I'm just here to fuck around, while everyone else is really serious about what they do. I want to produce something awesome.

I also apologize if this is terribly written. It has probably taken me over two hours, becomes I'm bouncing through browser windows and messing with other stuff. Peace.

Wow. I guess I'm really gonna end this with "peace", might as well chunk a virtual deuce while I'm at it.

I'll introduce myself aswell Smiley

I'm Lorenzo Kunkels, however, online I'll go with the pseudonym "TheShard1994". You have the permission to both call me TheShard1994 or Lorenzo, I don't care about that (after all, being called by your first name sounds a lot more personal and friendly, right?)

I'm 15 years old, well, this October I will be 16 Wink
My birth country is Holland (also called The Netherlands) and it's also the country I'm currently living in Smiley
I'm focused on graphics, both art to be used in games as well as regular art.

My goal is to become great at digital art, and produce awesome games.
I'm the head of Venator Incorporated, an unofficial game studio which produces free downloadable games.

I would really love to make flash animations and comics, but I'm a terrible story-writer. After all, it's never fun to work on something that isn't interesting at all, huh?

I'm also into music, I play drums and keyboard.

This is probably everything I have to tell, I hope this forum will learn me things  Smiley

Hey there, I'm George Dziov(mostly known as Android-Music), I'm 21. My gaming life began at 4, I was talking about that in the Wolfire blog when I wrote a fan song for their game "Overgrowth"
http://blog.wolfire.com/2010/04/Overgrowth-Heavy-Metal-Song-by-George-Dziov
My first attempts at game developing took place in 2006 which were unsuccessful. Well, everybody learns from mistakes, so do I. I heard bout Indie Pub developer contest on July and decided to publish a demo of my WIP there. Well I'm not very lucky at this one so I decided to visit as many forums as possible to seek for some support.
What about music? As most have guessed I'm a musician, I even mentioned that under my nick name. I wrote several tracks for some games, you can check my newgrounds page - http://android-music.newgrounds.com/ , selling one album at my site and preparing a little surprise for indies!
