The art here is off the charts awesome, but the missiles seem to be coming out of his chest, not the gun. Loving the debris, really gives it the authentic 16-bit feel.

Yes you are correct, we haven't drawn all the guns yet, but eventually the missiles will come out of the appropriate gun rather than his... huh... "chest"... Glad you're liking the art!
Cheers!

Another week, another update. This time we wanted to show some of the dozens of props that will populate the levels, showcasing the art-deco vibe a bit more: And of course introduce the next weapon on the list: the flamethrower! You can use it to burn enemies down obviously, but also most of the objects in the game are flammable: Be careful though, as fire will spread to other objects nearby... ... including yourself! This should create some interesting situations, such as baiting enemies to a particular area and setting that area on fire, setting an enemy on fire and watching it panic and run into other enemies, setting your friend on fire (hopefully he will be wearing fire-proof armor...), setting a barrel on fire then shooting regular bullets through the fire to create fire-bullets (which in turn set the enemies they hit on fire), and so on... Looking forward to next week and the next update, Cheers!

Thanks for the kind words!
And Hipshot glad you found this thread, Cyangmou actually gifted me Hammerwatch back when it was released and I had a lot of fun exploring its mechanics ^^ Bogus Detour is looking pretty sweet too, can't wait to get my hands on that!
Cheers!

Oh yeah this is looking crisp. Love how you already added some details like the little bits of exploding stuff, the fire and all that. I ususally leave that for last but really shouldn't. Looking forward to see how this game unfolds.

Happy new year everybody! For the first weekly update of 2015 we wanted to show our first enemy, the hexapod: And here he is taking his first steps in the world of Tower57 They seem innocent enough, but once they have picked up on your presence they will relentlessly chase you down! There is also a new weapon, the laser rifle (the next gifs use the flamethrower as a placeholder, but it should look something like this:) We’re trying really hard to give each weapon specifities and different usages (the laser tommygun is average in everything, the missiles are powerful but inaccurate and clumsy in enclosed spaces, the flamethrower deals lasting damage but has a short range and can easily … backfire ^^, etc…). The laser rifle is a very powerful weapon, but it’s also quite slow, so you better line up those shots carefully: On the upside it can pierce through several conveniently aligned targets, such as crates… ... barrels ... ... and even cute little hexapods ^^ That's it for now As usual if you have any questions about the gameplay, the art, the engine, or anything really, please don't hesitate to ask away in this thread! Cheers!

Time for another update! This time we are showcasing our fifth weapon, the lightning gun: While not as powerful as the missiles or the laser gun, the lightning gun comes with two noteworthy perks: - it can latch onto a target, allowing you to move around freely to evade bullets while the arc of electricity keeps frying your target - just like fire, electricity will spread to nearby targets: Not only does this allow you to reach targets which would otherwise be unreachable, but electricity also has the property of triggering switches and other electronics (more on that in a future update…). The second feature we wanted to show this week is destruction As mentioned previously in this thread, most objects are destructible. Some objects like crates and barrels can be reduced to rubble, while others, more imposing objects will show various stages of damage: Some might even contain useful loot And of course in addition to objects, the environments themselves will bear witness to your destruction: And that concludes this week’s update! Hope everybody likes what they’re seeing so far, and to see you back next week, and please feel free to comment ^^ Cheers!
