That sounds really unhealthy if you don't know what you're doing, which I assume is true for everyone who has health issues / worries related to eating.

Can't say I know a single fat vegan though.

Vegans are way more aware and cautious about what they eat than your avarage person, and those I know prepare their own food more often too. That's key to healthy diet.

What Netsu says. You're forced to be reasonably aware of what you're eating if you're to make sure it's actually vegan.

… Of course you can just get a lot of meat replicas and care just as little as you did before but at least it's not actually meat.

But candy does get trickier in most places, at least. That's a plus in this case.

I agree with what you both say, I just mean that it might be way too hard to do all of that if you're struggling with the "don't eat too much / the wrong stuff" phase still

Thank you very much guys! This is the 2nd week without soda and the first of exercises! I really appreciate your support!

happy new year, my portly friend. it is wonderful that you have made this commitment to perhaps giving thought to in future making a commitment to doing the really obvious things that you know through cultural osmosis and the blindingly simple realities of life will make you stop being fat. i am here to help you every step of the way, which is to say i am here on the computer screen that you apparently do not ever leave sight of. go outside, it's great out there. there's all kinds of urban youths who never completed mario and deadly predators to run away from to make you stop being so fat.

Happy new year! Thank you! LOL

Hey Apolgies if these have been answered but i read the first post then skimmed the replies and this seemed the easiest way reply Smiley

Also I should say from a fellow "big man" Im 6ft 5in tall, and about 300lbs of muscle and fat mix, Ive always lifted weights and played soccer so have always been "fine" with being a bit chubby as Im fairly athletic.. but now Im early 30's im doing something about it.

You're way taller than me... no problem in skipping the other replies.

You might not think you have a "problem with food", but if your putting on weight your probably eating too many calories, so you you might be subconsciously just telling yourself I'm fine I dont eat cake while eating 4000 calories of "healthy" food. You'll still put on weight. Try Calorie counting and being honest with yourself about food intake see exactly how much your eating.

Yeah, perhaps that's true... so far I haven't had any adverse 'soda abstinence' effect though. I'm not craving for sugar and my stomach is a little bit different... I'd say I'm more 'comfortable' with it.. I can't really explain, but I'm feeling better.

Quote
Ouch... Go out, get some friends, join a club or a church group (I see your religious) and socialise. Its important to have people you can trust and be social with.. Also putting (so, no one to be ashamed of having a fat friend) suggests you may have issues with your weight that you'd rather joke about than deal with which could be a sign of low esteem and self preservation. Real friends aren't ashamed of a friend for being fat and they will support a friend when losing weight and be happy for you when you succeed and support you when you fail etc.. Hiding away just allows you re-enforce the "why need friends they might be ashamed of me" mechanism

Well... perhaps real friends aren't ashamed of fat friends, but at least they get embarrassed... I mean, they won't for example do that parkour thing and other 'physical' tricks when you're with them. I think they feel bad because they know probably you won't be able to do that, or could break the neck trying. Either that or I never had a 'real' friend Grin

Quote
Im currently here too and working towards fixing it.. forcing yourself to do exercise is incrementally better and easier, the longer you do it the more you will enjoy it again. I say there's a 2 month point you need to break through where doing exercise becomes part of your routine than a chore you have to do.

Nice. I wish you success! Grin Regarding that 2-month point, I'm 1/8 to go.

Quote
Do you not? above you joke about no friends to be ashamed of their fat friend. Maybe you do care and acknowledging that might be beneficial so you can deal with why it's effecting you? maybe seek impartial counselling if you don't have any trusted friends.

Frankly, If I were the only person on planet, I'd probably be as fat as it gets. I'm only losing weight because I guess that deep down, subconsciously, I have hope that I'll accomplish something worthy in the future. Yeah, I'll keep trying but I'm not dumb, I know the chances are almost nil. When you have, say, 1 billion people trying to do something significant, your chances are quite low if you think about it realistically. Life is boring when you're realistic though, for example, being realistic I could just die right now and in 50 years that probably won't have made any difference. What moves us are our dreams, I don't have many though, I don't have time for them, for now I'll just keep doing the things I like and perhaps in the future I'll find some more time for them Grin.

How do you intend to meet any cool awesome women who also like Jesus as much as you, do you go places where you have a chance to meet them? get out in the real world. Join clubs, go to church events if thats what your looking for. Also if you had some friends to talk shit with and agree with you and your opinions etc you might be happier accepting a girl into your life who is a bit different and offers some well placed opinions etc..

But you aint going to meet a quality woman if you don't care enough about yourself to get off your backside, get out and meet people, and generally take care of yourself which includes being healthy/losing weight.

In fact my problem with woman is that they are 'religious' but extremely materialist. Whatever is their religions, I don't really care, as long as she is a good person, forgiving, tolerant, open-minded, doesn't deny science, humble, simple, respectful to all other groups of people/religions she doesn't agree with, etc.. Physical attraction is also important to me.
(NOTE: I'm not talking about being good to people not deserving it though)

I would like a lot of people to stop talking about Christ and start acting only a little tiny bit like him. People should have Jesus (or whatever other GOOD religious figure/prophet) as example, not simply as "the guy from past they talk about that will forgive their sins". *Being good* makes you good, talking about Jesus doesn't automatically makes you good. They say Jesus was a fair and good man, so people should follow his example and be good and fair just like him.

Also, I have a very rare mindset, for example, when all people I know travel, they're all about buying stuff, some people I know they only travel to places full of shopping centers and outlets. I don't see any point in that. When I travel I don't even take the commerce of that place into account, as long as I can buy food it doesn't really matter to me. I like to see beautiful stuff, historical things, ancient ruins, a beautiful sunset, that kind of thing; I like to enjoy the good things this world allows you to see and learn. I never met anyone who's not >20 years older than me with that same mindset.

I'm not saying that people shouldn't buy stuff, if that's what makes them happy, then they should do whatever they wish as long as they doesn't do bad to other people. What I said about materialism isn't about people buying stuff, is about worshiping material things and giving disproportional importance to material things. Unfortunately that's part of our culture. I wasn't raised like that though. You see a lot of parents nowadays teaching that to their child, for example, if their child didn't get what they wanted for Xmas, that would hurt their feelings, and that kind of stuff. In the home I was raised I rarely had what I wanted for Xmas, and I was taught that it's simply wrong to let the fact I didn't have a material thing hurt my feelings. I should be sad, for example, if I didn't have love from my parents, and that's a thing I always had. When I was child I though that was cruel, but today I wholeheartedly agree with that.

In few words: as a child I didn't have the right to cry for not having the latest videogame/bb gun. Grin

Your 25.. lose weight slowly and healthily 2 lbs a week and your skin should naturally shrink as you lose weight.. lose lots of weight too fast and it will hang... Basically make this a long term goal.

Yes, I'm planning to lose about that. My goal is to be fit by the end of this year. (which means about 2lbs/week)

Quote
Good start.. I still think calorie counting is important until you know how much your eating.. Calories in are the single biggest factor, if you eat less than you need you will lose weight...

anyways Good luck. Get started. Seek advice from doctors or councillors if you need support.

Thank you very much!

Lots of sound advice is given here already.

One method I found worthwhile is to focus on adding healthier things to your diet to crowd out the unhealthy things. While it's possible to cut out things like sugar/soda/salt/caffeine/etc cold turkey, the body will often react with strong cravings for some times and in some severe cases have withdrawal effects.

One other thing you should look into is your carb intake. Do a vast majority of your meals have bread/pasta in some form? If so you might find that making some of your meals carb free (ie: instead of ceral/toast for breakfast, you eat eggs/fruit) can really help you shed some of the excess weight.

Also for margarine, get rid of it. That stuff practically acts like plastic plaster to your insides and even bugs won't touch the stuff if you leave it out. Use real butter or equivalent for your cooking (olive oil, lard, etc) because one of the major things figured out in the last 10 years is that consuming natural fats & cholesterol are important to your health and could help you loose weight (if you don't eat tons of it).

Thanks for the advice. So far I'm quite okay. I'm going to keep some healthy things at hand in any case. Another thing that works for me that I've used in the past is to keep drinking some water often, even when I'm not thirsty, that way I don't get hungry.

I agree with what you both say, I just mean that it might be way too hard to do all of that if you're struggling with the "don't eat too much / the wrong stuff" phase still

Yeah, first I'm going to get healthy, after that I'll start to think about limiting my carte ;P.

Wolf. How is the diet balancing going?

You mentioned you exercise. So I'm going to make the assumption you don't need encouragement there.

If you work at a computer you should find an excuse to stand up often. This is good for your legs.

This article is a bit sarcastic. How to get hypo-thyroid.

Lips Sealed
Be thankful you can form good exercise habits. I have met someone with hyper-thyroid, I couldn't convince. The excuses I heard were routine boredom and muscles aching.

Oh yeah - salads are awesome for this.

Seriously - eat a salad every day. Some lettuce, maybe a little fresh cut broccoli, throw in some tomato slices, baby carrots, etc, a *little* bit of dressing. Loads of vitamins, some water too, and, very importantly, satiety (e.g. you *feel* full).

(google "satiety reflex" if you're curious. there's various neuroscience/gastrology stuff written on it if you want to get your medical nerd-on)

Thanks guys.

Yes, I eat veggies and that kind of stuff every day. Also, I don't care about exercises, and @Pfotegeist, muscle pain seems some kind of health issue or extreme overburden to me. I never had muscle pain from exercises. Fatigue is way different imho, like a kind of weakness. That's normal afaik but I don't overexercise.

So far everything is going quite well, only trouble I have is weekends. So much junk food around Cheesy. I'm going to weigh soon and I'll let you know if I'm losing weigh as planned.

Thank you for your support guys.
