This is a useless devthread for a game I hope to finish soonish. These two screenshots are how the game currently looks ingame. Test map featuring sexy gradient. Currently you can run and jump around, climb some ladders, etc. I dont know what the hell the game is going to be about yet, but I have a few ideas. I dont have much to show yet, but I'll keep you guys posted when something gets done. Hopefully this will be finished in a week or two.

Looks like fun. Have you got the character sprite animated ? he looks cool. Also, what is that pink thing in the test map (not the ladders )?

Looks very nice! The clouds (those are clouds, right?) seem to stand out a lot, though. Perhaps make them a bit transparent?

Much better now, thanks! If there are any pixel wizards here who could help me out with the climbing animation, I would love you. I just cant get it right myself, so help would be much appreciated. Please save me!

It makes a whole lotta difference. As to the direction of the gradient, it doesn't need to be realistic. I think it can be 'wrong' for artistic purposes. I mean, if Matias likes it better like this...

I like the idea of the background becoming lighter as you ascend. It sort of gives you a feeling of progress, you know?

I think he means that the character's head is kind of hard to read; what's eyes, what's nose etc.

yes, that. i had found it really...disconcerting...especially the brownish pixel in isolation near the top-left. I think it fits reasonably well with the art style as a whole (which I find difficult to settle on my feelings for (which is probably not a bad thing...)), but I thought I'd mention it anyway. Also: I do like the gradient(I mean the original one; I don't know if I have any especial feelings as to its value over the inverted one presented later).

The concentric squares on the blocks, block variation, selective grass, flat swirly clouds, and a few other things all seem to be heavily inspired by Fez.

Still looks nice from the last time I saw it! But, a question that was forgotten: Also, what is that pink thing in the test map (not the ladders )? That little flag with the pink !, what was that?

But, a question that was forgotten: Also, what is that pink thing in the test map (not the ladders )? That little flag with the pink !, what was that? It's a secret.
