So far the big news I've noticed at GDC is that two of the biggest engines (Unreal Engine and Unity) are now offering all their features for free, which is awesome!
The differences are pretty simple, Unreal Engine requires a max %5 royalty on each game copy sold after earning over $3000, while Unity is royalty free but has a list of features and beta access that is only granted to people who pay $75 a month.
Still very awesome news!

Anyone have a hotel room they are willing to share near the event? Me and my two colleagues were looking to see if anyone has hotel sharing they want to do since the hotels around there can be quite expensive.

2016 was my first year to join in the GDC, and it turned out to be awe-inspiring overall. I attended many seminars open to Expo pass that includes a round-table discussion about the Remote game developer from Wednesday to Friday. I also attended a few lectures by people who were or works at UC Santa Cruz, the university that I graduated from. Despite having a second degree burn on my left hand, I was able to try out a few games. My favorite ones where lectures that involve self-motivation to work on projects in a positive yet urgent way since I am having difficulty finding jobs in the San Fransisco Bay Area, despite there being an abundance of game programming jobs there.
The GDC was worth every penny, especially with the Expo pass bought at the earliest time possible.

The GDC Plague, however, was worth none of the pennies.
On the other hand, GDC was probably worth catching the plague, plus several pennies.

I was at GDC SF last year, and it was really, really good. I expect to go back next year maybe, when I can show off a game.
If you go, don't miss to have lunch in the park nearby, Yerba Buena Gardens. I'm totally serious. It was nice and green, AND I SAW A HUMMING BIRD! Ok, you might be used to that kind of thing, but I'm from Sweden, the closest I've been to a humming bird previously is some old Disney clip.
Anyway, the sessions and people are great too!
