Super Night Riders just got updated on PC! Here's the changes:

- A bit more initial time on the endurance race (Course 1 to 6).
- You can now change the music in-game using LB and RB / B and N.
- Higher resolution textures. Now looks great in 4K!
- Improved in-game HUD: Font and colors.
- More graphic settings: Main Menu > Setup > Graphics.

The update will come a bit later on Xbox One.

By the way, Super Night Riders and it's soundtrack are currently 50% off on the Humble Store Smiley

Keep stylized. We have more than enough reality sims.

Is it too late to say I agree?

Thanks!

Well, in the end I've implemented both realistic and stylized styles. You can choose between "Super" and "Classic" graphics in the game. Here's a comparison shot:

I really hope you are doing well with your game. Congrats on another platform release.

How about GoG.com? I'd get it there as well.

@eyeliner:

Thanks! I did contact GOG but they've refused the game. It was the 2016 version and since then the game have progressed a lot, so I might give it a try again!

neko.works,

You're welcome! I have a new video, of me trying to get all the achievements (uploading now):

After playing it for a few hours, I have a few pieces of constructive criticism / feedback that I hope will help:
  • often the biker's helmet blocks the view of the road (in the distance where I am trying to 'read' what is coming up)
  • I have passed a checkpoint many times with 0.1 seconds left and then -- without slowing down ever -- do not make the next checkpoint. I believe passing a checkpoint should guarantee that you have the chance to pass the next one. This means perfect play should always increase or maintain your time remaining as you pass each checkpoint.
  • nitpick that we 'solved' in our own retro racing game: let the bike cruise to a halt when time runs out, so that there's a chance to pass a checkpoint that is close when the time hits 0.00s. You can see in my first video that I am right next to the checkpoint, and it would be great to get a chance to pass it. When I don't, it feels unfair. Some games apply the brakes. Some like the vehicle cruise (no gas). And some, like yours, just end the game. It's really your choice and this is a personal opinion! Smiley

Curious, on the TrueAchievements forums, it says you made the final 1..6 course stages harder. Did you?

Thanks for listening!

@Xonatron: Thanks for your feedback! I'll see what I can improve, though I'm currently working full-time on my next game - Light Fairytale - at least until the release next month.

Currently, the timer bonus actually depends on the whole race, not just the previous stage. For instance, if you passed stage 1 with a few crashes, then passed stage 5 perfectly, it's quite possible that you'll miss stage 6.

The difficulty increases the more you unlock new races, but in term of timing, the hardest races are "Course 6" and "Hanami", where you need a perfect race.

"Course 1 to 6" is actually a bit easier than those 2 races in term of timings, but as it is longer - around 15 minutes, it feels harder - but you can clear it with multiple crashes.

neko.works,

Interesting. I will have to follow your new project too! It looks great! Good luck with it. Amazing the work you can get done!

Back to Super Night Riders, I tried again for the 1..6 course run, and managed a one-crash run and only got to stage 30 out of 36. Fast forward to 24m:13s if the video embedding does not respect the time stamp:

https://youtu.be/CWzTkJIVndI?t=24m13s

EDIT: I guess the embed does not work when you include the timestamp! So I'll leave that link, and embed the video too without a time stamp:

I believe the timer bonus calculated on the whole race leading to missing future stages even though you passed previous ones is not great. I respect you are not continuing to develop this, but I think it breaks the idea of the checkpoint.

Curious about the difficulty... is my attempt how harder because I have passed every other stage in the entire game, including the 1..6 courses individually and all titled stages? Crashing once and not completing seems a bit hard.
