DEVLOG UPDATE #2 - 11th Feb 2015

Progress has slowed a bit this week due to other work needing to be done irl
But hey! I got some things started Shrug

I've started the animation for the player attacking. It's a little difficult, because the sword is a separate image and it'll look silly just moving it up then down. So I'm using a mean of a squared-based curve with a linear curve, giving it a more of a quick 'swoosh'

The next thing to do would be to draw in some arm animations... which ain't quite so fun.

Thanks! Yeah, some people don't realise the full potential of GM. Its actually rather powerful Smiley

The wavy grass is based around a skew and scale algorithm. Where the sprite is chopped up into triangles, and stretched to fit the variable I gave it. In this case, it wobbles by itself in the wind, and then I add the player's horizontal speed to it when they collide Smiley simple!
I'll let you in on a little secret... You can eventually buy a house in the game on whatever planet you like.

Thanks man! That node menu is gonna be a lot more intricate, I just have to finish the player, then I'll make the inventory amazing!

Depending on where you click, determines the attack direction. But there are also many many puzzles and yeah the whole HUD that uses the mouse Smiley

DEVLOG UPDATE #3 - 21st Feb 2015


Well looky here! An update!
Sorry guys for the delay, life has been pretty busy so haven't had the chance to work on something for you peeps out there. But I have been working on NIKRA, and there are some pretty interesting things going on.

First up, I have rewritten the way the game renders the player (again)
This time it splits the player up into parts, drawing the back arm, the legs, body, head, then front arm. Each arm frame is given coordinates of the joint and hand, so when I make the player hold a sword, they hold it nicely!


The Iiem

Something that Marek and I have been discussing are the creatures you'll meet on your travels through the old galaxy of Nikra.

In the story, the Dark Angel known as Iinenea corrupts small living organisms across the galaxy. With the power of iiem running through their soul, they grow and manifest into creatures of pure darkness. Some retain their usual form, and some mutate beyond what is physically possible, until some of them become colossal and immobile.

Q&A

Q: "What are some WIP features for NIKRA?"
A:
Well, obviously being totally ambitious, and wanting the most in NIKRA; I want to add as much as I can. But I feel as if I add "mining", "randomly generated this and that", "generic creatures", "turn by turn fighting", the feel of the game would sway away from the main point: to tell a story.
So right now, I'm focusing on just that!

Q: "When are you going to show off some pixel art and other planets?"
A:
Very VERY soon!

Q: "What is NIKRA programmed in?"
A:
It is made in GameMaker: Studio, probably one of the best programs I have ever used in my life. I love it to bits, and NIKRA wouldn't be where it is today without it Smiley

Q: "Can you build houses? Fly ships? Have amazing guns?"
A:
These sort of features are rather big, and would be things that would be added near the end of the development.
