imo the art and lighting and color and facial animations/capture look really shit compared to the first trailer. That music tho, sublime.

"I haven't talked much about that, but it was such a difficult time because he was going through a lot last year," Keighley says. He was shocked when he found out – just days before the show – that Konami wasn't going to allow Kojima to attend, and he felt he had to say something, despite the company being a sponsor. "The fact that he finished that game under those circumstances is just amazing. He was locked in a separate room on a different floor than his development team for the final six months of development. He couldn't even talk to them – he had to talk through someone else. That's how that game was finished." http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1321480

actually i dont see animation/drawing as an "advantage". real people and real places are more interesting than idealized cartoons 99.9% of the time (in my opinion). and that friction between reality and the fictional world of film is exactly what makes film as a medium interesting. it enriches and adds subtext that animation often lacks. for me seeing actors perform characters is one of the main draws of watching a movie. you can never go for pure escapism with film. even in something like lord of the rings or whatever, you have to show a real person at some point.

what do you think dark souls would be if they used actors for some characters?

the characters wouldnt look like facegen monstrosities, so thats one thing

i like it when a game is disconnected from reality and has its own universe , i don't want to play a game and suddenly confront a Will Smith faced character unless it's a game meant to be a comedy or parody. Had a problem when i played onimusha (the one with Jean Reno) because i pictured him from a french comedy.
At least you can't think of a specific irl person with Dante.

I also would be totally down with it if Telltale decided to tackle The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Yeah I mean I kind of have the same thing with voice actors, though I suppose that if the voice actor isn't the person on screen there's still a layer of abstraction on top of it. I agree it can be used to make games more interesting, instead of less. Let's see what Kojima is going to do with it.

Any half decent character model is meticulously photo referenced from models and has been for years

the video is probably a thinly veiled "glorious nippon anime superior to baka gaijin realism" sort of thing lol

the actors in games that use face capture tech are usually not well known lol. i mean how many people really know what troy baker looks like?
