Hmm I think I actually have a decent idea for this. Let's see if I go anywhere with it. It's quite ambitious so.. (Although that might be because I just want a ton of content in it, I think I'll be able to get out a simple gameplay demo at least.)

mmf has opengl/directx/whatever support (at least in beta); baby's first skydiving academy had it, though it did stuff in 2d. there's nothing chaining you to using MMF anyway, there are other tools out there that might be worth exploring...

And you don't even need real 3d at all... if you can scale sprites, you can do 3d. Just make objects bigger as they get nearer. Easy!

If Metroid Prime is acceptable, than any FPS with 100% HUD display (as opposed to the classic Wolfenstein-style stat block/border) is fine. Pretty sure there's some free FPS code out there in one or two places (for anyone looking for ideas).

Hmm... maybe this is finally an excuse to use my Flash voxel renderer.

I have an idea, but it would slow down my Trilby spriting. Hrm.
Choices.
Edit: I have a couple of ideas, but should I really make a topic if all I'm probably gonna put in them are concept art and sprites? I don't think I have time to program anything fancy with school on my heels.

Am I allowed to do a collaboration project along with my own game? That would basically make two games for me.

Increpare did 3 games for the Commonplace Book Compo, so I think it's fine.

ill try to make something for this using construct, i have a rough working fps thingy based off of someones example and heavily modified by me,
id make it an rts of sorts, your in a brain room and theres a big screen that shows what your looking at, and you order little neuron men to do stuff instead of directly controlling the guy xD. i hope i can finish this!!! it sounds liek a really fun idea.

I know what I want to make.
Remember the flight simulators of yore? Remember how pretty much every key on the keyboard did something? Remember being able to look "down" and see even /more/ switches in your cockpit?
That ain't got nuttin' compared to this.
The actual "game" will be something simple, like flying in space, maybe shooting stuff. The challenge will come from trying to actually accomplish anything with the byzantine cockpit interface.
I think this would fit a hard sci-fi space sim really well. Stuff is generally going to be millions of miles away, combat will occur in the space of a few milliseconds, and there will be pretty much zero value in looking out the cockpit window, you will constantly have to rely on instruments to get anything done.
Wondering if that could be pulled off and actually be a) fun but more importantly b) feasible.
I had the exact same idea and I so want to do it as well.

This comp is ace! SO many possibilities! Loving everyones random ideas, I'm glad it is not going to be just one style of game but this comp is encouraging us to think about user input and feedback from the game to user. I wish I could say I have an idea for a game... so far just cool games that had great "cockpits" -ScummVM : Ok a Genre, still a cockpit though! I think to get into this competitoin it would need to be a tweak on the classic input mechanism, perhaps just a series of impulses to pass into the character not clicking on the environment directly... (Too much art for me though -Populous : Book as cockpit -Dungeon Master/Captive ... ... : Love these games. Easy to code this up using OpenGL... Hmm... Gonna have to think hard about this one... -T&B
