DOWNLOADThis is my first game, a very odd, surreal game. It has unique (read: shitty) graphics. Hand drawn, but then scanned into my computer, made into a normal 16 colour bitmap in Paint, then resized to make it smaller, then copied into another 16 colour bitmap with Cave Story's colour palette. Enemies include a gentleman's head, a face that looks kind of like Alec, a head saying "ERROR" on its forehead, a ninja bunny head, a jellyfish with a goatee, and a weird alien skull face. The plane is a cross between a small aircraft with an open cockpit, a bat/pterodactyl, and a mermaid. Its driver is half bald with a very long face and is scared of heights. The bullets are actually just the word ZAP written out. Screenshots:This is the original drawing I scanned in (the product of having nothing to do in drama class and doodling on my script): To prove that this is actually a decent entry, I have the required HUD!

I now have the sound effect for shooting and the theme song, which I made in 10 minutes using an acoustic guitar and Garage Band (on my Mac). It loops quite well. You can hear it looped 3 times here.

Now that I have art and music it's time to actually learn Game Maker... this shouldn't be too hard if you've at least tried to learn some other type of programming (i.e. basic). have you?

Okay, I don't think I'm going to have time to learn very much about Game Maker in time for the end of the compo, so this will probably turn from a shmup into an artsy (read: shitty) goalless exploration game a la Fly Guy except far worse. You'll still be able to shoot, but it won't do anything other than reward you with a handwritten ZAP for a bullet and the sound of me saying "ZAP!".

Or you can just listen to it here. It's more of a yell than anything.

Since I couldn't figure out an easy way to make the game quit when you reach the end, I decided to make it so that in the last room a robot gentleman tells you to press escape to quit the game. I used the in-browser demo of Natural Readers text-to-speech software to make it, although since it is maximum two hundred characters, I did it in three installments and edited them together. Again, I used extremely low compression. Gentleman of the Aircraft (Slightly spoilerish)

Okay, it's finished. It's rather... surreal. Not exactly a normal game. Updated first post. Download Aircraft of ErrorHere are some screenshots: To prove that this is actually a decent entry, I have the required HUD! And this is just a black crumpled paper level:

I think I found a bug (Although I really can't be sure..). The 'zap' sound doesn't appear to be working, and shooting just seems to cause the music to start again from the beginning. Also, firing during the ending speech causes it to stop completely. I think your problem may be that Game Maker can only play one MP3 at any given time, so you'll have to convert several of the sounds into .wav files. I dunno though, maybe that's just intended behaviour..
