Howdy gents!  Gentleman

Here be updates for the iPhone game project that I'm currently working on. (with fellow gentlemen AdamAtomic and Clemens no less!)

"The City. When they built it, they figured they were improving the quality of life for everyone. The tallest skyscrapers in the world. Roads upon roads upon roads. Industrial expansion and jobs for even the most talentless schmuck. The optimists saw a bright future ahead for all mankind.

The greedy saw a bigger paycheck. The tallest paychecks in the world. Bills upon bills upon bills. The moneybags grabbed hold of the City and squeezed until it was drained dry. The infrastructure crumbled. Vigilantes took over the streets. Disasters plagued the City as if it had always been marked for destruction.

Then the Heroes came. They came from the local High Schools. They came from the wrestling ring. They came after they dropped their sons off at soccer. They were ordinary people like you and me except for one detail. Each one had a gift - a unique super power that they could use for good... or for evil.

Some came to save the City - to rescue her citizens and restore the utopia.

Some came to revel in the chaos - and to perpetuate it.

Of course you should know all this already, after all you did apply for the position. "Hero Management" is a tough job, but someone's got to do it. Fortunately with our newly invented I.P.H.O.N.E., it should be a breeze to assign orders and keep the heroes on task. However, this is a power that could be easily abused. Who knows what the heroes could do if -- well you wouldn't let that happen, now would you?

The City is in your hands."

I've been working on the game for a few months. We're aiming to get a really solid demo done by GDC, and then polish up the game for release on the App Store after that.

We've been detailing many steps of development, and its kinda of fun to look back on the blog entries to see how the game has progressed.

I'll post some extra thoughts on here as we continue to update the blog.  Beer!

Wow, that gameplay video was pretty cool! Hand Thumbs Up Right With a name like Heroes & Villains,  I was expecting another generic beat-'em-up, but this has all the elements of a great puzzle game.

I wouldn't mind having a title that describes the game better, but I haven't been able to come up with one yet.  Shrug

iHeroez? <--- NEVER.

Wooh nice! Smiley

I'm not sure if you said so, but maybe the levels should begin paused? Pausing immediately seemed to be your favourite interaction with the game, anyways Smiley

that's looking quite good; not at all what I was expecting.

the first villain level looks like it should automatically complete itself?

maybe have ghosts to show the range of people's force-fields when you're placing them?

I'm glad you're not naming something stupid, like iHeroez.

And agreed with Godsavent, I thought it'd be a generic beat em' up! Nice to see it's not.
You're making great progress!

'Supers City' comes to mind as a name - a takeoff on 'SimCity', since you're managing heroes and villains, the City is the binding element.

Adam got some new textures done, and I implemented some title code that finally displays Ian's level titles.

We also started messing around with some physics-based gameplay mechanics...
