Hey group,

We're working on a 2D action platformer for mobile/tablet, and we're wondering the best ways to test out which icons look best/what gamers prefer.

Does anyone have experience in A/B testing app icons?

Thanks in advance, yo!

Post-release the best thing you can do is just toss icons up on the store and watch CTR.

Pre-release the best thing you can do is release it to the smallest possible platform and do the above Smiley

That's been my experience so far anyway! I found that focus groups, friend's opinions, or personal opinion was all incorrect at predicting CTR from images. The reality is of the various icons tried, nobody predicted the one that actually performed best on iOS. It wasn't by a little bit either, it was like 30%+ more than second place.
