so i was on the show last night. funny thing was, the first 2 segments of the show were dedicated completely to assassin's creed. they had a tester bring in a debug unit and play the game, and this girl who worked on the game's presentation (UI, visual identity) present the game. and then there was me.
the UI girl came with this PR wasp who kept talking about how great a job they did marketing assassin's creed. acting all surprised that the game is getting so much coverage, as if it was some kind of grass root effort. one of the M+ guy commented on how good the game looked, and she said something like "well yeah, it was a huge team! sure beats 2 guys in a basement!" so i turned around and asked "whats wrong with 2 guys in a basement?"
later, when they were doing the AC bit, me and her were sitting in the back, and she quietly asks me "so what do you do, phil?"
"i make games in basements."

Ah! :D I was watching the show and I had to go away form the tv cuz it was really pissing me off that the girl there had no idea on what to say about the gameplay and all. I mean, if you gotta talk about a game, ask a freakin' game designer/level designer/lead designer! The host asked her: "Has the game changed alot from the first phase of development (design doc) to release?" And she answered something vague... Felt like she had no idea whatsoever of how the design changed and what worked or not in the original game design ideas.
Aquaria can kick some serious ass visualy speaking and it's 2 guys in their basement... There's lotsa game with great visuals that have been created by a handful of talented individuals. It's not how many people are workin' on a game, is how talented and passionated these individuals are.
I freakin' hate it when people in the industry can't see the whole thing. I mean come on, there are other games than those who have millions invested in them with 4 + years of development but only offers little gameplay and nothing worth going "wow" other than some technical achievement to represent as many polygons on the screen. Is it that hard to actualy look at games that were not created by a team of 120 person workin' full-time? Is it so hard to understand that some people want to make game even if they don't have a fat pay check from doing it?
...
Well, sorry 'bout that... Anyway, Phil did a good interview plus I got to see my game fullscreen for what? 20-30 seconds?
So now, what games are gonna be at the event?
