Screenshot of my entry...

Not much too look at right now.  I haven't had my artists create anything for me yet.    It'll be a mix of elements from Space Invaders and Arkanoid.  That's the short of it anyway.  Just wanted to announce I'm workin' on something.

I'd also just like to say that my game is coming along well, I hope I finish it in time. It's running smoothly in full-screen as well as with a 360 controller. I hope to finish it this week so I can show it a bit before sending it Wink

Currently it is the max (256x256).  Likely that will change before it is completed.

You might be confused about what resolution is... it's the dimension in pixels of the screen.  This is 256 x 256:

Your screenshot is 640 x 480.

That's a roger Derek.  My screenshot is indeed 640x480.  The game however is indeed 256x256. Perhaps it looks a bit smoother overall because I scaled it down from a screenshot of   a 256x256 window on a 1280x1024 desktop and hence edges appear smoother.

Fish, I have some final questions & clarifications:

  • All games will be full screen with a black background.
No windows taskbar. No windows desktop. Just the game.
    Correct?

  • What was the outcome of projectors and pixel sizes?
Believe it or not, I'm still unclear what you desire.

    If the projector outputs 1280 x 1024,
    and I make a game that has a 256 x 256 resolution,
should the game be 256 x 256 pixels,
    or should the game be 1024 x 1024 pixels (each dot 4 x 4)?

Both achieve big pixels. Both are "low rez".
However, projected the 1024 x 1024 version will look much better than 256 x 256.
    Since projectors can't natively handle 256 x 256,
you'll wind up projecting a large, ugly gray border
(since projectors can't handle pure black).

  • What time does the second half, non-MIGS Gamma start?

Thanks for the clarifications!
I've got a great 2x2 MMORPG en route.

thats the ideal, yes. blown up and letterboxed.

    or should the game be 1024 x 1024 pixels (each dot 4 x 4)?

yup. that's it. each dot becoming 4x4 or 8x8 is great.

Both achieve big pixels. Both are "low rez".
However, projected the 1024 x 1024 version will look much better than 256 x 256.
    Since projectors can't natively handle 256 x 256,
you'll wind up projecting a large, ugly gray border
(since projectors can't handle pure black).

we'll just have to live with the non-pure black.

  • What time does the second half, non-MIGS Gamma start?

last year the 2nd half started at 9.
but as a creator, you're invited (and encouraged) to show up early in case something breaks.

Thanks for the clarifications!

THANKS SO MUCH!!!
All my questions are answered!!!

I've got a game idea that trades on a resolution gimmick.
Hopefully it makes all your trouble worthwhile.

I'm waiting from some feedback from a couple of testers but mine is almost finished. A couple of things to tweak and I'll be done... Unless there is something awfuly wrong with the game Wink Then I will freak out. :D

Lol, yes.. I am freakin' out here.  Roll Eyes

I'd love to make it before the deadline, but my game idea has changed a lot since I first started and it became a whole lot bigger than I first thought. It's questionable whether it's still realistic to enter Gamma 256 with it.

Apart from that, it's not suited well for '5 minutes of gameplay', so either I have to change the whole idea and make a much smaller game or I should bail this time...

So, anybody here is going to attend?
I know Fish will, and in theory I will too... Who else from the boards will be there?
