As the planes are made up of a single colour in this guy Rami's game his coder could use a nice method whereyou just rotate the body and wings and the wings are scaled additionally to give the impression of a roll. V neat... Anyway keep up the good work!

Interesting, thanks!

That would have been hard for us to pull off...

Hello again TIGS

We are busy as always, which is why it has been a while since our last update here on the DevLog. This doesn't mean we haven't been working though! If you want to stay better updated, you can follow our twitter, where we post stuff a little more regularly: https://twitter.com/skychasersgame

The main thing since last time is that we have made a new bossfight, where you have to take down 1 of 2 twins.

Then we went on to add mouse controls, make a new afterburner effect, and do some general improvements, for example to the AI of the enemy jets.

Right now we are working on a cool new boss. Temporary name: "The Serpent".

Thanks you all!

We are pondering what to change the game's name to. There is another game with the same name, so we have to do something about it. Does anyone have suggestions or helpful advice on this?

There are a million names better than sky chasers  Cool

Think about the audience that you want and the names of games they've bought. Outside of Luftrausers the game reminds me of Sonic, UN Squadron (named Area 88 in Japan I believe?), Raiden, a ton of shooters really, Outrun and Gran Turismo. Use the name to highlight something other than it being just a flying/shooting game.

After Luftrausers was released I started work on a ripoff(of course I'm not saying your game is a ripoff) that I called "rough housers". This particular project of mine never got very far, so feel free to use the name.

or perhaps "Death Jet"? I don't think that has been taken yet by any other games

Haha thanks! Well, we don't want a name too similiar to Luftrausers.

"Death Jet" doesn't really work with the game. It's too brutal and simple, and doesn't fit the theme/mood very well. I personally think it should be something more elegant.

Oh and congrats on the kickstarter. I saw it pass the goal earlier.

Taking the name of a song from a game you like for the name of a game you're making that elicits similar feelings is totally acceptable appropriation. Adding fake Nippon pronunciation is, uh, pretty tacky. We did this for a gamejam, and for the sequel we had a long discussion about the pro's and con's of the fake Japanese, and it's like... maybe it could be cool but it's definitely on the edge. And if you're serious about your game why risk it?

Also, Dogfight Blues is a dope name for a game and if you don't use it I will be happy because then maybe I can use it one day.

Then we went on to add mouse controls

If I can see correctly, the plane rotates towards the mouse cursor automaticalluy but the acceleration is triggered by a button, right?

Yep, correct. Both normal thrust and afterburn are buttons.

Yeah, this looks action-packed! Great work so far. I think I'd like to try making something deep out of simple mechanics like this one day.

Just a quick update. Thanks to your suggestions, we've added speed lines and wingtip vortices.

P.S.
Background looks really barren right now, but that's because we are getting everything ready for new system with more parallax and stuff.

Those speedlines and vortices really give the game's movement that extra visual oomph
