Can you talk about your design choices in the character's special abilities?
Sure.
The charged move has a curveball for all the players, after a sucessfull hit you can curve the ball using the analog stick.
HeroineThe heroine is an all around character, she has medium range, movement speed and medium power.
The neutral attack has quite a wide hitbox.
Her dash is quite "tight" when you release the button you immediately stop in your track, so it's very precise.
Her charged spin attack has a hitbox that can hit in a range around her. This can turn out to be bad, if your reaction time is too slow you might hit the ball when it's past you, and score in your own goal. That's supposed to stop players from spamming the move carelessly.
DogThe dog's specially abillity is that he can walk whilst using his neutral attack. he moves a bit slower, though. His range smaller than the heroine though.
The dog's dash is quite slippery, which allows him to slide quite a large distance. This makes it less precise though, it tends to overshoot.
The dog's charge attack is a bite, it has decent power but very small range, as a compensation for his nimble neutral attack.
WarlockThe warlock is aimed at advanced players.
His neutral is narrow and long, he can attack from a greater distance, but requires a lot more precision. He can poke over the center line as well, which is a high risk-reward type of play; sacrifice defense for offense by moving away from your goal.
The warlock has a teleport instead of a dash, which also requires a lot of precision. But the travel time is super short, so if you're precise he can block a ball last moment.
His charged move only comes of the side, opposite of his neutral attack. I wanted to give him some sort of defense, but I think I'll have to redo this move along the line.
That's it pretty much!
I've completed the polish and the game is now ready for recording, wooh!
Unfortunatly my machine is too weak, so I will have to find someone who wants to let me record on his pc
This is the intro I had mind for the greenlight trailer.
All programmed manually because unity does not have any type of scenematic editor
It's missing a part at the end since I have no one to play with right now but it's supposed to go something like this;
- Heroine hits the ball
- dog hits back whilst moving (showcasing different neutral attacks in characters)
- heroine dashes to hit ball back (showcasing dash)
- ball hits the ball (showcasing stage boundaries)
- heroine hits with fully charged spin attack and curves the ball into the goal (showcasing charged attacks and curving)
- announcer says "1 point! (display game rules)
I think this is a nice way to show the viewers the basics of the game in about 10 seconds, so they can understand the gameplay that follows.
The house is one of the ugliest stages though, so I'm not quite sure if I feel comfortable having an 18sec intro of that. But I'm not sure what could be a good intro in a different stage/
