Hi there. This week was full of code refactoring and bug fixing but we were able to implement one new feature. This #10 devlog update is our small jubilee, so we have something special for you, but first We are happy to set our game development progress to 30%! Treasure chests as a premium itemAfter a long analysis and brainstorm process we decided to make treasure chests as a premium item. Chests can be obtained as a reward from daily tasks or for a small amount of money. Every chest will contain from 3 to 5 common items and from 1 to 2 rare, special items. Hello there everyone. We have some interesting features for you today. Just take a look: Loading game parameters from remote bundlesThe ability to load game parameters remotely is very important for us. It will allow us to balance key values without official updates. The flow of the process is to set proper value in our Google Sheet with parameters, then export it to JSON, generate Unity Asset Bundle with this data and put it on our server. Then game will try to download everytime someone will start to play. In case of no internet connection, locally saved data will be used. Shop items with minimal farm levelThanks to the previous feature we were able to add minimal farm level necessary to construct every building. It will help us to balance the game. After every farm level, player will get access to new buildings, etc. So now every item has one of three possible statuses: - unlocked
- available to unlock but not unlocked
- not available to unlock

Just like that: New rendersBarbecue GrillOne of the production facilities in Blocky Farm is a Barbecue Grill. It will allow us to produce some tasty food. Hello everyone, here you have episode 12. of Blocky Farm devlog. Have a nice read! Game loading screenAfter remote game parameters implementation it was high time to add a game loading scene. It is as simple as that: game logo (don’t worry - it is just a temporary placeholder :D), some game hints and smooth progress bar animation. Shaking fruit treesYou can remember that there are some kinds of fruit orchards in Blocky Farm. Every tree gives a fruit after finished production but it requires player’s interaction to collect. It needs just a single tap on the tree to shake it and dump the fruit on the ground. Then fruit is automatically collected to the barn. Highlight decoration slotsDecoration slots is a great feature but now it is easier to find free slot for your decoration. Just look on the gif: Moving buildings to other slotsWe implemented this feature to give a player some freedom in placing buildings on the map. Of course every decoration will be moved with building too. As you can see, it works fine. Hello everyone, here you have episode 14. of Blocky Farm devlog. Have a nice read! Bridge and unlocking new areaThere are some inaccessible areas on the map that can be unlocked by completing some simple objectives. This week we’ve implemented destroyed bridge that player has to repair with some boards, ductapes, etc. Repaired bridge gives an access to the new area. Farm gateWe’ve also added a farm gate that is not only a customisable decoration, but also display the farm’s name. Of course the player will be able to change it! Global eventsThere are some global events in the Blocky Farm. For example, player can get 2x more experience/coins from completed orders with delivery truck. Events are temporary and last around 3-5 days. Everything is of course remotely parametrized. Hi all! Welcome to the next Blocky Farm devlog episode. This week we have two really nice feature for you! TractorOne of our goals in BlockyFarm is to engage and entertain a player at every stage of gameplay. Going this way we decided to add a tractor that is available to use later in the game. A player’s task is to repair this vehicle and as a reward it becomes our next tool useful for collecting crops. It is also possible to drive on the whole map. On the gif you can see updated steering system. The whole GUI is hidden except three buttons necessary to drive the vehicle.Is it wheat or rather mine field? Meet the Filemon - the second pet that is available to care of. Cat has special set of behaviours. Just look on it, how sweet our cat is! Hello there everyone. We have some interesting features for you today. Before you start, remember that we are still using placeholders :D PathfindingOur pets now are able to find paths among building, decorations and other obstacles. We’ve implemented this feature basing on the A* algorithm. Everytime the player builds something, graph with all possible paths is recalculated and saved in the memory. Thanks to that, our pets can find a shortest possible way to the toy or something like that. Generated graph with all possible pathsHow it works?Pathfinding during play with ballMedicines productionAs you probably know, animals sometimes become ill in Blocky Farm. To heal them, player needs medicines. So we’ve added a Herbalist where some healthy syrups can be produced. The important aspect of this feature is that we’ve created a special area on the map where some buildings stand - useful but not directly related to the farm. (More info in the next devlog) Camera focusCamera focus was fixed. Just that First animationOur animals will be as much interactive as possible. To achieve that, we will need many animations. Hi all. We are happy to show you these great features. Disco ModeDisco mode is one of Blocky Farm’s special features that makes this game unique in our opinion. How does it work? Disco Hummer arrives to our farm from time to time and allows the player to start a big party. Huge speakers set appears, music is playing, animal are dancing and everyone is happy. Goods production is hastened by 50%. How do you like this idea? (Remember that we still use placeholder graphics).
Pet housesWe don’t want to leave our pets homeless, so we’ve added some simple buildings-decorations for Cat & Dog separately. There are several dog houses, a big pillow to lay on, some huge cardboard boxes and a cat tree. These are the rest points where pets feel comfortable and more happy. We are going to add tens of different pet houses in the final version of the game. Once again: how do you like this idea? Stroking animalsOne of our goals is to encourage the player to interact with ingame world as much as possible. One of the ways of interaction is stroking animals. Player can have fun with pets using simple gestures that trigger various behaviours. Our pet can jump, lay on the ground, chase its tail, etc. Did you like this Blocky Farm update? We prepared something special for the next week - new game graphics that looks awesome - trust me! See you!

Blocky Farm new features: Animal selfiesAnimal now can take a selfie photo :D Then this image is used as an animal potrait in some UI panels. Just take a look. Dog chasing a catEverybody knows that dog and cat don’t like each other. That’s why dog can start chase a cat. Sometimes the conflict is exacerbating and chase lasts a very long time, and sometimes ends after a while... ..or sometimes something goes wrong xD BonusOn the following gif you can see the whole process of creating game map.

Hi, last days we were focused on improving UI, so there is not so much to share with you, but we still have two interesting new features. There are some obstacles on the map that blocks parts of a play area. The player can destroy it with a saw or a dynamite and get useful resources: stone or wood. Awesome, this is looking great and you are moving fast!
I'm also working on a (startup) simulator type game and I'm finding it an interesting challenge to put in just enough UI and pieces in place to be able to test the game-play, without wasting too much time on visuals which will likely get replaced later.
Curious: are you using any frameworks for dealing with Unity UI more easily (e.g. MVVM pattern or the like)? Or do you update the UI values directly?

Hi! We just wanted to share our Global Game Jam game with you. Why? Because we think that it is really interesting game. We are proud of it. 'Good morning' was created in 48 hours (that are the rules of GGJ). The theme was 'ritual'. We didn't want to make another game about shamans, voodoo, etc. so we made a game about breaking daily rituals. Game is free and we don't have plans to develop it in the future.
