Thanks, I hope to keep a chill mood throughout.
There won't be action outside of the mini-games and stuff like that.

Also I forgot to add, when the characters are talking they speak bebebese like in animal crossing.
Not anymore - okay now it sounds like keyboard typing and it's cool so I'm keeping it

Fixed the dang smoke rendering. Also, the game runs in 60fps, but my computer is having a really hard time recording GIFs.
This may become a static image devlog.

Woof woof woof!
(best game eva!)

Woof? woof wuf ruuff woof wof.
(What? I don't understand dog speak.)

Five star systems to visit.
One asteroid to call home.

Not to scale.

It's just a random space dog.
I modeled him after my dog to begin with, but I wanted it to look more like a generic dog, so I made him a jack russell terrier.

For the sake of equal representation player agency the dog is now unisex.
Francis is it's new name.

I have a question about the games style.
How should the planets be shown?
Right now, the only planet in game is the asteroid, and it was easy enough to just make it how it is.
I have some options going forward, and it'd be nice to have a second opinion.

This is the asteroid:

And this is how I plan to draw other planets:

The thing is, it doesn't seem to follow an overall style, and as you can see, there isn't room on the screen to fit the sky, which I would like to have.

So here are some other ideas I've had.

Pretty simple, it's obviously the same style as the asteroid, but there's a lot of wasted space, and it'd be hard to draw the atmosphere and clouds in a readable way.

This is the one I'm leaning towards. It's pushing the 3'4ths view, as you wouldn't be looking over the horizon if you were looking at the characters at the angle they're drawn, but it shows the sky without too much wasted space.

What do you guys think?

I kinda like the last one more also. It gives more emphasis on what lies beyond the planet (the cosmos) and feels more moody.
Reminds me of the pics from the moonlanding.. http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01434/Moonfirstpic_1434657c.jpg

I didn't know Francis could be a girl's name. Maybe there's something better. :c

Very cute game anyhow! What does landing on a planet from the "map" view look like?

@Lobstersteve
I'll go with that one then. I agree that the horizon has thematic value, but it's more for the point of being able to draw awesome skies.

@Prinsessa
Girls with the name Francis are usually referred to as Franny or Fran. There probably is a better name, like Mel, but I've already used that one.

WIP desert planet.

In the future, this planet will have a temple that houses the four cosmic gurus.

Well, I meant the transition from far away view to close up view. But maybe it just cuts like when you left the planet in the GIF earlier?

I like the new planet perspective, looks like you can fit more on screen. Are the screens going to scroll left or right, or will the camera jump to a new screen when the dog walks out the current one?
