btw, almost none of the shit people call "censorship" is actually censorship. censorship is when you're literally banned from saying/expressing something. getting a backlash for holding an unpopular opinion is not, has never been and will never be censorship. neither is changing commercial mass market media for fear of negative PR.

this is not to say that these things are always good and justified. in fact they can be pretty awful, but that's a case by case thing. it's ridiculous to claim theyre somehow inherently terrible. a society with 0 consequences for speech is not attainable or desirable.

ok, but beyond that one UN paper that was withdrawn (already discussed itt), i can't think of anything like that. the #1 stated justification by those lobbying for internet restrictions and mass surveillance programs at the moment is terrorism.
