Sorry for late reply. I was gonna script/draw something "Real quick" before I replied. You know how that goes.

Yes! 45 degree transitions now! Oh boy!!

Just an observation. I haven't played any past the original red and blue. He he he.

OKAY! I'm having a nightmare trying to get some water shorelines that I like. Here are 4 options, all WIP. Could I get some feedback?

1. Wave (Most obvious on bottom tiles)          2. Wobble

3. Sparkle                                          4. Glow/Pseudo wave

Which is better?! A mix or a few tweaks is on the menu as well.

I really like the Sparkle. #3 is my vote!

Nothing about water is more appealing than its sparkle Smiley

I'd say #2 imo seems like the best choice to me.

Or maybe the cleaned up look of #1 applied to #2 with some wave action going on.

I rather like #1, myself. Feels a lot more watery.

In general, though, this is looking really cool! I love the technical stuff you've got going.

I love how this game looks! I'll definitely be following this Smiley As for the water I slightly prefer #2 I think.

A vote for 1,3 and two votes for 2. Well then, here is a mix:

5. Mix of 1,2,3

I kind of "Cheated" on adding the ripples of #1 though. They tend to make the tiling obvious so I am wondering if I can have random ripples INSIDE the water instead on the shoreline.

Better? Needs more sparkles, less wobble? (Animating the water texture itself is on the menu)

Also thanks for the game compliments McMutton and wizered67!

I did a little more work. Animated the surface, added random edge waves, and some tweaking here and there.

Probably the last post on water!

However you made the water the way it is now is perfect in my opinion. Well done. A nice mix of sparkly and wavy Smiley

My new super advanced map editor: MSPaint!

Should make map editing way faster on a grand scale.

Thanks for the kind words all  Coffee

I'm spending FAR too much time on trees. My biggest issue is switching styles over and over trying to find my favorite. Could I get opinions on tree Styles?

Some are more WIP than others, but I'm hoping I can get some direction on which tree to perfect. (Also the grid system makes for easy naming of trees. A1, B3, C4...)

Which style should I pursue? (Thanks all)

I like the leaf shapes on A1 and A3, but I also like the 3D effect that the shading gives A2 and B1. I think if you shaded A3 by darkening the lower/side leaves and slightly brightening the upper/front leaves (but not too uniformly) you would get the ultimate tree.

I think it's important to see the trees in the game before making that call. In all honesty, every one of those trees looks very nice(!) and could be put it a game right now. But the styles fit one game or another better -- it really depends on how it looks next to the rest of the world.

That said, just presented like this, I like A3, B3, and B4 the most

A3 Wins! And as @lineley suggested, I tried to add some 3d-ish shading. Kind of subtle edit (Slightly outdated)

Also trees were a little tricky. I didn't use Gamemaker's default depth system so I had a few bugs:

And then these "bugs" (butterflies) needed AI

Put that all together, and this is what they look like ingame @TheWanderingBen:

I'm a little biased, but I think that looks interesting enough to explore!

Bias or not, I have to agree! I love this a lot. In a way it reminds me of the golden age of Rpgmaker. But I mean that in the best way possible as there was so much amazing stuff going on in the Rpgmaker scene at it's highest moments.

Except the quality of the butterfly and water effects easily surpasses what was doable then! Really I'm a big fan of that water. And those trees are all wonderful! By the way the mapping system seems very impressive too, brilliant idea using mspaint as a map maker! Just out of curiosity, is there is a size limit to maps?
