This looks awesome! Both the technical aspect of the project as the game itself. In fact I just made a new thread about voxel raycasting developments, asking if anyone has any news about what's going on there.

Also, did you consider making everything in voxel? shouldn't be too hard to do those low res model with an extra dimension, like in voxatron.

Thanks!

Yeah, I did a test with full Voxels even for the Sprites. But I liked the look and speed of 2D Sprites better  Well, hello there!

I'll head right over to your other thread and give an update of the current state of Voxel ray-casting

So, this week I've been working on getting procedural Water going. It's coming along quite nicely, but still doesn't look as good as I'd hope.

On the upside, I've got some more Character Art to share!

I am happy to announce that Phoenix849 will be working on new Sprites for the Game  Smiley

He's already made a Wolf unit for Spellwrath:

Here is a look behind the scenes of the rendering Engine. More specifically, how the soft shadows are dynamically created in Spellwrath:

Beware: There might be some math  Grin

It's been a while since the last update - and a lot has happened!
So, just in time for the next ScreenshotSaturday...

The biggest news is that Mika Koskensalmi is finishing up on the Concept Art for the Story of Spellwrath!

Here is an early look at what is coming towards the Game:

Just a small update:

Spellwrath has a new Logo!
And Mika Koskensalmi has made a very cool Banner for it!

It has been rather quiet lately. Not because the work has slowed down, but rather because I've been implementing things that are hard to screenshot and make "interesting" Smiley

The Game will have a small Intro video to set up the story. I had to expand my engine to be able to handle video playback. This alone took me 2 - 3 weeks. A real pain...

If you are interested in the details, I've decided to go with the FFMPEG (https://ffmpeg.org/) library for decoding and display everything with raw OpenGL and FMOD (http://www.fmod.org/) for the sound.

I'm still not fixed on what codec to use and currently leaning towards Theora (https://www.theora.org/).

Wow, I'm loving all the tactics games that are coming out from indie developers lately (and not enough of them use hexes, so kudos on that, haha).

The art and style of the game is looking great, can't wait to see more!

Thanks a lot!  Smiley

I've also got a little Update:

Some new Characters by Ernesto Irawan!

An Assassin and an Archer - Both choosable Classes for the Knights in Spellwrath.

---

There haven't been many Screenshots lately. This is mainly because a lot of the coding I am doing at the moment is not graphics related. Mostly implrementing Classes, Items and Quests. Stay tuned for more shiny updates though  Smiley

Wow this looks fantastic. The aerial view reminds me a bit of Warcraft 2, with the dragons and all. And that's a very good thing!

This looks sweet! The mixed styles work surprisingly well! Also as a fellow turn-based dev, I salute you!

I've gotten around to testing out some different Landscape generation with a tiny bit more "detail".
