Really beautiful. I want to run around in those paintings!

How many developers/artists do you have in the team?

Awesome concept art Smiley
One thing I would personally do different are the forms of the scarf, since seeing real life objects like a rocket on such magical world looks a bit weird to me I would try to go to more abstract and dynamic shapes (like a swirl instead of the rocket).

Looking great, good luck!

Thank you!

We are te following main team:
- Programmer
- Concept artist / game designer
- Composer / sound designer
- 3d modeller
- 3d Animator

Recently we have been helped by one more programmer, a rig specialist and another 3d modeller.

Actually, right now all the work with the scarf objects has been focus on more organic shapes. For the demo that we are preparing, you can only use two transformations:

a hand

and wings

this is the process of the animation

We will show both in the game hopefully soon.

Than you for all the kind words!

Ah nice, I had seen the concepts but it's the first time I see the protagonist in full 3D! (I guess)

How's the funding going? What are you doing to look for funds? Have you tried stuff such as... IndieFund? (I know it's a long shot, but you never know)

The scarf certeanly is going to be one of the pillars of our game though right now we are not working in that.
The idea of the scarf in game will be to create a mix of clothing and particles to aproximate the visual result to the painterly quality that DifferemtName talk about.
It's actually a huge challenge and when we have that solved we'll post about that.  Smiley Smiley

That sounds awesome! I look forward to seeing it once you've tackled it.

I really love the concept artworks. Hopefully you can preserve much of that analoge, painted, organic look & feel in the real time rendered version of the final game.

We're working on it, that's more or less the idea, but relativly speaking, always knowing that Journey is something outstanding.

Thanks. That's what we're aiming.
We hope that soon we can show some gameplay for feedback.

Hello!

For this entry of our devlog we would like to talk about the 3D art in Scarf: Walking with Souls.
In Scarf we are giving lot of importance to the looks, and we are trying to develop the game with a true artistic visuals.
Since it’s not a realistic kind of game we try to approximate the most to the concept art designs.

A big part of this is the vegetation and the landscape.
Knowing that we were working on a meadow, our concept artist worked in lots of drawings that could be a good representation of the looks.

For the landscape, the 3D modellers made a huge number of rocks.
When the design of the map was done, all the rocks were used for making little islands and walls...
Here’s one!

Concerning the vegetation: We try different styles, (different textures composition, leaves quantity, tops).
As you can see we make an effort maintaining the form of the concepts into the 3D, since Scarf is a game with a great importance in the looks we wanted to keep faithful to the drawings.

For a more detailed map, we include different assets on the map.
One of the most important were the roots.
Over time, this roots have increased their importance in the game. We’ll show something about gameplay soon hopefully.

As we mention in another post, in Grassland there was a previous civilization, and only ruins remain.
The architecture of Scarf is composed of only a few assets, but these can be combined to make different kind of buildings.

We are working to add some more detail on the scenario, for example WIP waterfalls.

(gif of the wip waterfalls outside the demo)

Right now we are really happy with the atmopshere and colorful ambient, but we are still in process and we have to optimize and polish the results yet.
Hope you enjoy this entry! Smiley

Shocked

It looks impressive, man! Some of this art looks like The Witness, haha.

Also, the waterfall is specially beautiful and the world looks really interesting in that last screenshoot.

Congratulations on such great work.
