Bound to be controversial, I know, but I thought Anita had some good points in the video, especially with regards to third-person camera focus in games with male vs. games with female protagonists.

Also, totally meant to post this in General, so mods, you can move the thread as you see fit.

I think she was going with a half comedic style for this one, but she can't really afford to do comedy in her situation so it ended up being too serious for it's own good. Still informative though!

I liked this one a lot, very funny and gets the message across. Something everyone can agree with, well done.

Also probably a good place to post her plan for the rest of the season:

All of these seem like cool things to talk about.

Neat.

A useful thing to have would be a panel of feminists who could tear apart character designs while they are still in development, so that by the time they 'hit the shelves' they are feminist approved and certified sexism free

Or better, have feminists educate character designers while they're still in college!

...but for already existing studios that would be the best solution yeah.

A problem with it I have is that if the developers are going for "sexy" they are shooting themselves in the foot anyways because there is no subtlety or lead up to it, it is in your face pretty much start to finish from the moment the female characters are on screen until the moment they leave. Because desensitization almost immediately sets in it loses all impact, it's reached a point where it is not even a novelty anymore it is just sadly to be expected.

It's not even like there is this one sexualized female character that stands out against the more modest characters, every female character in just about every game ends up being the sexualized one. Supposed sexiness lost in a sea of supposed sexiness, it's like a badly edited porn where you are stuck with the shitty story segments and all the actual sex has been left out, you are just stuck with scantily clad women in cringe-worthy roles reciting bad dialog.

Video game developers use females in the same manner ad agencies do, and more and more I realize how badly it can cheapen the experience for me overall (but especially where the immersion factor is concerned). It's like watching a movie that is turning out to be awesome only to be hit with terrible CGI, it just leaves a bad taste in your mouth and makes it hard to stay really invested in the experience.

It's about time someone called attention to the mysterious strategic butt coverings that male characters get. Unlike Sarkeesian's summation, I could see more guy butts in games. :/

...and a point of order, Catwoman's character is sexual and always has been. Comics, even the jokey TV show, the films... That was always part of the point of her character, a not-too-awful-villain who conceivably vamps Batman to achieve victory. Sexy Catwoman isn't gratuitous Catwoman, it's a character component. Whether that's good or bad or enjoyable, is up to the audience.
The real shame was DC taking Poison Ivy the same way, especially in that barely mentionable film. And now even Harley Quinn is a sex object these days because apparently Joker is a sympathetic villain? I don't even know; DC universe has gotten so weird.

I'm sure there are people in this world that would want that, but that's besides the point I guess.

I disagree with her. We definitely need more male butts to look at.

the point isn't no male butts, but more male butts won't change the mistreatment of woman through objectification, it's a deflecting the issue.
