Hey, looks cool I hope you take care of good level design too, because i think a lot of retro action platformers have actually bad level design by today's standards. (Too hectic, not predictable etc..)

I know! I will do my best to keep it kinda realistic though. It's going to be widescreen and my parallax backgrounds would need to be a bit different on a real NES. retro level design
I'm learning as I go, it's challenging. Plenty of testing will be required. Speaking of learning, since run cycles are hard, I recorded myself on a treadmill for reference Here's the ref and final product:

Thanks everyone. You're absolutely right DanHibiki. I could adjust the run for more -ness I've studied some bo-staff moves recently, so I'll hope to incorporate that into some future enemy A small update with a floor spinner enemy. I know everyone loves these kind of guys in megaman
