Hi guys,

We have just released our latest game on Gamejolt and it would be great to have some opinions.

It is relatively short, however if people like it I may create some more levels as I have enjoyed working on it.

I love your characters and the way they move.

I definitely think it is a good idea to add more levels.

Some detail and polish will also round off the game nicely.

Overall I had a great experience!

Hi Bazooka,

Thank you for the great feedback, I am working on a new level now.

My daughter is making a new level too as she finds it a bit hard to play currently and it was made for her to play.

You mention polish, can you elaborate on that so I have some detail?

Hi monsterfinger

You mention polish, can you elaborate on that so I have some detail?

Polish for me is that last layer of detail and finesse. For example adding a bounce back when you hop on enemies or instead of using one tile for your grass tileset, maybe use a combination of 4 different tiles to enrich the look.

Here is quite a cool presentation on the small little details that make a game.

Have a great day!

Hi Mr Bazooka,

I enjoyed that video, very helpful and amazing just how the little things can change so much, it has certainly given me some ideas in how to improve it. Quick update while I'm here too.

I have made the dialogue optional now, so you get a button prompt, same with moving levers that is now done via a button prompt too, worked more on getting the collision better on the moving platforms, worked on graphics a little and also added a new level.

I appreciate all the feedback and hope you can take another look when I have the new update online.

I have worked till 3:30am this morning, but it was all worth it. I took the advice from the video and added that extra layer of polish, there are now 3 layers of parallax which gives some great depth, added dust clouds as you land, more sounds, optional dialogue now done with a button prompt, also you need to press a button to activate the levers now too.

below is how it looks as of right now.

This feels way better.

One thing that still bugs me is the menu font. It feels very hard to read. It might be because it's cursive.

Overall great improvement!

Thanks, I have had a few comments about that actually, I will take a look into it before the Android release.

I have just finished the final update to Mr Monocle and its changed in a big way.

Firstly I watched several great talks about "game feel" some of them are below.

Well worth a watch and there are so many more too which I haven't added.

Some of the big improvements in Mr Monocle are how he feels to use, he now has a small slide as he changes direction, he runs so that has meant I could create gaps which are there to specifically test this ability.

New sounds have been added and tweaked, new visual effects have been added such as stars that fly from each coin collected, grass that sways and leaves that fly across the screen. New objects have been added such as the Rocket Block.

Enemy animations have been changed, levels have been tweaked and new areas added to give new excited possibilities, also I have nabbed the idea off Mario in one level meaning that you can run across the top segment to complete the whole level if you can find the secret to get there.

Other changes have been made such as changing the fonts to make it clearer, adding a controller screen so you can see how to play and also small tweaks to the intro.

Phew so as you can see I have been busy lol.

Please give it a go as I would love some feedback.
