Hey, anyone remember the game Abuse from the defunct Crack-dot-com?
Other than Soldat, are there any other games that control similarly (I'm thinking more along the lines of single-player, but Soldat was the closest example I could think of).  I thought the game was great for the time.

Hell, even now I think it's still pretty good.

I remember Abuse :D  One of the first games I played with a tightly integrated level editor.  Loved the visual style...gameplay was a bit hardcore for me at the time.  That's one I'd love to replay now!

Slightly OT, I found this while perusing PGG for laughs the other day: http://www.phoenixgamesgroup.com/uk/games/gsquadpc.html

Am I wrong in thinking that they're re-selling some like mod of Abuse?

Abuse was a game I really wanted to like but in the end I think the frame rate was too low, or the game itself too fast and floaty, for me to truly enjoy it. Superb graphics though, and lots of juicy secret areas.

Phoenix Games are so awesome though :D Not sure if that's an abuse hack/mod though... it's certainly dark enough!

My favorite part is in the first level where all the alien-panthers jump out of the wall, but then you're like "Denied!" and you activate the laser grid. Good times.

Abuse was really sweet. Thanks for reminding me.

They released the source code for Abuse and I tried looking around and found at least one windows port of the game. I haven't tested it so I don't know if it actually works.

It's kind of unfortunate that a sequel was never made.

Abandonia hosts the very original game (I think). Which would mean making it work on newer computers is a bit of a pain.

You should try VDMSound (you can find it on the website as well). Usually makes the sound work (or the game as a whole if it doesn't work). If all else fails, try Dosbox.

I didn't try to play the game myself though.
