Sonic matures very fast, but he shaves his chin, chest and arms for aerodynamic reasons, the only hair he leaves is the one on his back, the so called "hedgehog spikes", hence his name, but he's not really a hedgehog, he's an ectomorph type early bloomer, or at least that's the reason I've been identifying with him over the past years.
