Have some OST while you read!

Oh! Ko! is a cute/weird/funny/poignant point 'n' click adventure game which focuses on a little bug kid who is left home alone, finds a tiny robot and has a small-scale magical adventure. Mechanically it's similar to Sam and Max, with verbless item-based puzzle-solving, and I'm also hoping to include some physical puzzles, simple action sections and minigames for variety. A prototype of the game was made in a bit less than a month for the 2014 IGMC where it did pretty well, coming second in the non-RPG category, and is now in development to be released for PC, Mac, Android and iOS as a proper, shiny game! Well, shinier. Here are some locations from the game:

And for posterity's sake, the hastily-made comp version looked like this:

I thought about starting a devlog during the comp but between working full time and making a whole (albeit tiny) game in three weeks I didn't find the time. After the competition I started taking on music commissions, and between those and working full time I barely found time to work on the game, let alone start a devlog. But just recently, I've dropped to part time hours as my commissions take off and as a result I've got a bit more time to work on the game! I recently restarted Oh! Ko! to allow for mouse controls and bigger, better graphics, so now seems like the perfect time to start a weekly devlog to publicly expose my general ineptitude while guilting myself into staying motivated and on track. Oh, and if you want to follow the game and maybe throw me a few dollars for it when it's done, that would be awesome too!

If you really want to play the hastily-cobbled-together-in-a-couple-of-weeks original and completely spoilers the proper one for yourself, knock yourself out! The basic story and mechanic is there, but not much else. The proper version will be longer, prettier and generally better put together, I promise! It'll have more involved puzzles, more locations, mouse/touch controls, simple animations... oh, and it will have a proper soundtrack - I only had a few hours to work on the music just before the contest deadline, haha.

If you want to read people being nice about the contest version, click here! There's some awesome LPs and reviews in other places too if you poke around Google. Ko even received some amazing fanart!

Stay tuned for more thoughts and details about the game and its characters and story, progress shots, soundtrack updates and other fun stuff! I don't have a definite deadline or set of goals, but I hereby hold myself to posting something tangible at least every couple of weeks. Feedback is always appreciated. Thanks for reading!

Thank you kindly! In my case the simple art style was a no brainer as I can't draw very well and wouldn't have had time to do anything more detailed for the contest anyway, but it worked out for the best Smiley Have a penguin!

The first piece for the revamped soundtrack is up, and features the percussive talents of Vincent Sermonne!

Listen to "In Search Of Toast" on SoundCloud.
Thanks for listening! Coffee

@ernani: Thanks, turtle brother! I really need to post another ToD track on Soundcloud, I'll get it uploaded soon Smiley

@Prinsessa: Thank you! Yeah, puzzles are fun Smiley I'm planning on stepping the complexity up a bit from the contest version, though Ko will also have a diary to refer to for clues if the player gets stuck.

The faces in my last post are for dialogue boxes. I thought it would also be cool to have Ko's in-game sprite reflect emotions so I made these to go with them:

Thanks peeps!  Gomez

Been working on some new music and locations, will have stuff to show soon. In the meantime, here's a mockup for a shiny new inventory UI:
