Hi all

I'm currently trying to learn the basics of game promotion. It's a LOT of info to take in but I think I'm slowly learning. At least I now understand the difference between a press kit and a press release  Grin

What I'm still unclear however, is how to construct an email to the press. I've read a lot of conflicting suggestions. Some suggest short concise dot points with links to press kit and press release, and not to bloat the email with embedded youtube trailers and screenshots. Some suggest otherwise, packing in as much info as possible, even including the entire press release in the body of the email.

Thoughts, suggestions, examples?

I suggest using twitter and following the press that writes about your game. They will find you and start the conversation on their own Smiley

BTW, there is a myth that the press is so hard to approach, just write an email. As long as you write to people that cover the kind of games you might you should be all right. At least it applies to smaller ones.

An excellent talk by Rami Ismail at GDC 14 can be found here: http://www.gdcvault.com/play/1020877/In-3-Sentences-or-Less

He goes over how to pitch your game (not just to press, but anyone).

I made a post/video on it that is pretty extensive. You can check it out here:
