Big Pixel Studios produce exceptional independent and high-profile partner games for mobile, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This small and highly skilled team have released over 20 games since 2009. Partners include Marvel, Adult Swim and Mind Candy. The studio also produces its own IP, most recently for consoles and PC.
Big Pixel now seeks an experienced server developer to bring multiplayer and service-driven features to upcoming titles. The successful candidate will be solely responsible for creating, launching and maintaining all server-side requirements. Passion and skill is fundamental with a strong focus on producing reliable and flexible services.
In addition to the core role of backend development the successful candidate will be involved with many other aspects of game development:
Idea creation and brainstorming.
Gameplay testing and balancing.
Promotional tools - websites, mailing lists, forums.
Some client-side development.
Creation of web-tools and custom dashboards.
Requirements and experience:
5+ years programming experience (commercial or otherwise).
Load balancing and scalable architectures.
Launch and support of products with 50k+ DAU.
Expert at your specialised language (i.e. Node.js, Java, Scala, .NET, C#).
Production of documented RESTful APIs with a focus on usability.
Network sockets and data compression.
Understanding of synchronous multiplayer networking.
OAuth and server-side verification.
NoSQL (e.g. MongoDB, Redis).
Database management with read/write optimisation.
Set up and maintenance of AWS (or similar).
Nice-to-haves:
Keen interest in video games and the games industry.
Basic C# and understanding of Unity software.
Experience of multiplayer services - Profiles, Lobbies, Rooms, Matchmaking, Inventories.
Strong team player and enthusiasm for teaching others.
Networking for synchronous multiplayer games.
