Hi. I've not really looked into game jams before and have mostly been bumbling along making stuff on my own. I'd like to have a go, but don't know where to start. Do you have any suggestions for jams that someone new to them could get into?

Thanks

Hi there,

What do you mean by where to start? Unsure of which game jam to participate in?

Here's a comprehensive list of all the game jams around the world:

http://www.indiegamejams.com/

Since you're new, I would suggest either:

One game a month runs for a month so that may help you ease into it since you have a month to complete. If you're looking for an adrenaline rush, the next Ludum Dare is coming up this April 15-17.

Hi Zeke. Yeah, I wasn't sure which ones were good for someone who's never taken part in a game jam before to start off with.

I'll look at the ones you've linked, thanks  Smiley

Good afternoon,

There is an ebook called "The Game Jam Survival Thread" available for free today on Packt.com.  But you should hurry, I think it's only available until 7pm EST today.

I am a regular customer at the site, and when I saw the book was available I remembered this thread.

Hope it's helpful!

GameJolt and Itch.io also allow the community members to host game jams with varying skill levels and themes.

Worth a look if you don't have enough on your plate with 1GAM and Ludum Dare.

My first Jam was Global Game Jam, it was really fun!it's held every year in January
http://globalgamejam.org/
it's cool if you're a newbie 'cause you can just observe or get  mixed up even teams of pros - if you're lucky and... let's say a funny guy or a skilled one? XD - and you have 3 days to create a small game, reeeally fun! I joined in Milan (Italy) 3 years in a row now (though one year I was just as graphic help desk)
