Most f*cked up for me? Lemme tell you a little story! Gather 'round children, unky Guert's about to say something unsuitable for children! It occured about 8 years ago, while I was still in college... The japanese culture was on the rise and the teenagers of my hometown had just started to feel the wave of new, imported japanese movies and goodies. 2 steps away from college, stood (and still stands) a nice game shop where we could buy or rent video games, movies and those weird cartoons that they refered too as "manga" or "anime". Well, We all know college is time for new experimentations so, one day, a good friend of mine and I were visiting the little shop and decided that we'd rather watch something new rather than play a game. So we browsed through all the movies and stumbled upon this Albator-like figure... Y'know, that kids show that features a space pirate? Well, we watched the show when we were very young lads and decided to give it a try... We paid and went back to college to our TV set... So, we watched the tape. Not bad. We liked it. We went for another tape. Liked it too... The next day, we didn't have any courses (the previous day we had some but skipped them ) so we decided we really wanted to know what anime was all about... So we got like 20 randomly selected titles without ever looking at the boxes. Who cared! We watched Macross plus, Evangelion, Ninja Scroll, A ping pong show of some sort, Akira, A show about how to date and keep your marriage in a good mood, Ghost in the shell, Bubble Gum crisis, Slayers, Record of Lodoss wars... We then stumbled upon this weird title... "La Blue Girl"... Well, we did watch a ping pong show, so a girl in blue was nothing special... Oh we were so very wrong... Might I remind you that we were in the time of the crazy technology called VHS and rented movies didn't feature any boxes, only the title of the movie labeled on the black box... We we're very surprised at first but we didn't realized right away that it was actualy porn... Sure there's this pervert monkey following the heroin everywhere and she did wear her roommate's underwear AND it was very graphic but... Anyway, it was shocking at first but it was all very tame... Nothing we didn't see in Ninja Scroll anyway... Until there's this guy standing in briefs on a light post which turns into this demon-like creature and guess what! She gets rid of him by shooting her PUBIC HAIR! Now THAT'S f*cked up in my book... Hilarious but so, so, so weird... And so this movie is now forever labeled in my memory as "f*cked up anime"... I never saw the ending... Don't plan to see it anyway... But I gotta see that berserk one... One day perhaps... Later! Guert

Ah wait, I almost forgot... The most *fucked up* anime is definitively Cat Soup. WARNING 1 : This one may be too fucked up for a normal brain. Luckily it's just 30 minutes, and can be watched whole on YouTube (search for Cat Soup part 1, 2, 3). WARNING 2 : No Kawaii chicks in this one, just cats.

Yes, Cat Soup is disturbing on a more primal level, it's just so subtle and creepy, really takes you back to scary childhood moments.
Also I'm totally gonna get Mindgame after all the recommendations, it looks deliciously tasty based on screengrabs.

They're both by Masaaki Yuasa, right?

Another I remember now was Angel's Egg. I remember not understanding any of it, but the art of it was magnificent. Of course, Amano worked on it. http://www.amanosworld.com/html/work/egg.htmlAlso, Cat Soup is genius.

Wow, just watched Cat Soup. One of the best animations I have ever seen, ever. Absolutely LOVED it. holy crap. I don't even particularly like anime (because I haven't really seen any past Dragon Ball Z when I was younger ).

cat soup was based on a manga by this chick who used an alias to do the book. nothing is known about her. not her name, what she looks like. all we know is that upon completion of her book, she killed herself.

Speaking of Cat Soup, there was a series of rather idyllic cartoons featuring the same cats: Nekojiru Gekijou. YouTube has all the episodes. The closest way I can describe it is as a warped Japanese version of South Park.

The deceptively cute
is a favourite of mine. Dokuro-Chan is almost in the same vein.
Berserk really grossed me out and I've only seen a few pages.

Nekijiru got REALLY weird at points. Really funny in a demented way.
I further vote for HunterXHunter being one of the stranger Shounen shows I've seen. It started off with fairly typical fighting, with some nice tricks from some people. Last episode I watched? A man stabbed his opponent through the hand with his BODY HAIR. And a girl used her vacuum cleaner to DEVOUR THE DEAD!
Awesome show!

Holy crap! Is this true? Because it sorta would make sense.

I'm surprised no mention of Legend of the Overfiend. After enjoying stuff like Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell, Akira, etc, I saw LotO and that turned me off all anime for many years. The first time I watched it I thought it was violent and brutal (which are alright by me) but I tried to watch it a second time and just felt sick because the rape scenes seems to stand out more to me (rape doesn't sit well with me at all, tentacle or other).

Holy crap! Is this true? Because it sorta would make sense. Yeah, that's more or less the story. Although, there's a few things known about her. Her husband came forward, continued the manga, and gave permission for J.C. Staff to make Cat Soup. More info is hard to come by in the U.S. I've also tried to track down the original manga, but I can't find it anywhere. Anyway, I've seen most of the stuff mentioned in this thread. Angel's Egg is new to me, though. The only things I can think of to add are Pale Cocoon, an incredible sci-fi OVA that's strange because it was made by just one guy, and Cosplay Complex, which is wrong in many, many ways. I suppose you could throw in Excel Saga and Dragon Half, too. Then anything by Studio 4°C is highly recommended (these guys were sort of mentioned, they did Mindgame). Oh, and a screwed up manga I can't seem to find anywhere is Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service. It's not as graphic as MPD Psycho, but it has some pretty screwed up crap.

The fansub group that did it is dead. There's a huge torrent of all their releases out, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link to it here. The torrent's called JR releases, do a search on torrent finder and you can probably find it eventually. It also has Nekojiru Gekijou in it. I didn't really like that one, but it's interesting to psychoanalyze the creator of the work. It quickly becomes very obvious why she killed herself. Oh, and no, I'm not talking about Cat Soup- that's a more artistic interpretation of the same manga. It's also a lot better.

FLCL is still one of my favorite animes, and probably the only that I find worth going back and watching from time to time. So whacked, but so very clever at the same time.
Dead Leaves was just fu*&ed.
