Punch Kings - is a 2D platformer beat em' up for iOS/Android. You play a bear descending from the heavens whose goal is to  beat up all the other bears to become the "punch king". I'm focusing on short challenging gameplay with many unlockables and player cosmetics in the form of hats.

Features:
  • 3 Areas : with its own unique boss. After a set amount of waves you fight a boss and jump to the next area.
  • Unlockables : in the form of hats and bears with their own unique punches. You can also buy certain bears, power-ups, and hats with gems and/or gold tickets(obtained through missions) in the shop.
  • Random missions?? : If completed you get a golden ticket you can use for something. (Shop, lottery?) - The missions may get cut for now.. if I change my mind, it'll be in the final stages.
  • Amazing cutscenes just because.. eye candy!

  • Engine: Stencyl
  • Graphics: Graphicsgale

I wish I would've started a devlog earlier, but alas.. better now than never. I'm almost done with the "initial" menu, so I'll get that post out soon!

Finished the "initial" intro for the title screen. (The title sprite will probably change later on).  Normally there would be 3 menu choices, but I want to streamline the experience which leads to a cutscene/mini tutorial that jumps the player right into the game.

I made some box bears. They charge up with a bouncy animation and dash forward. Unlike normal bears, they cannot be interrupted while doing their charge/dash.

God it's so cute I love it. I feel like the main character bear could look a little more like a bear, maybe I'm being picky though.

I got my first power-up in! The current powers planned are God Fist, shield, double gems, and spring boots. I'm up for any other power-up ideas. =)

Nothing fancy like that. It just uses a basic attack/jump button. Smiley

Yep, I really liked the quick/sloppy artstyle, but I've ended up making everything more detailed than I wanted. That might be a good thing.. I don't know. heh.

Anyways I beautified the BG and created the spawn effect. I had no idea how I wanted him to spawn, so this just happened.

Looks great! I love games featuring bears Grin

My only advice would be to have defeated enemies' momentum be based on the force of the last impact, instead of just random as it seems like right now.

Thanks guys.

I haven't posted in a bit, so here's what I've worked on so far:

  • Hearts are now included. [A maximum of 3 lives can be bought]
  • Chests [They either drop gems,gold ticket,or an encouragement cat.]
  • Finished some swipe menus you see in most mobile games. It's not implemented in this game yet, but will be soon. (For character select stuff.)
  • First hazard that's not an enemy. Spikeballs!
  • 2 New enemies - Slime/Ghost
