So I was curious whether there would be any distinct patterns in Briggs Meyer personality types among members of the GameDev community, and figured personality types in general would be an interesting topic to discuss. Smiley

Some may be pretty skeptical, but generally speaking i've found that it's pretty accurate.
My type is INTP. Found it's description of me was pretty bang on, and showed me the flaws and strong points of my personality.

Generally speaking, I think more 'I' Introverted types will show up, since it's fairly obvious a lot of us are pretty solitary creatures.

You can take the test here: https://www.16personalities.com/

Myers-Briggs is total bullshit.

Labeling personalities is entirely nebulous even if you're not basing it off of the current phase of the moon or what stars were visible when I was born.

The thing about it is that you're just telling it how your head works from your answers, no guess work, it's not reading the planetary alignments. It's for giving a generalised view of your psyche without having the laborious task of actually  talking to the cunt. For the sake of data collection nobodys going to care about what makes you special, since you can't put qualitative data in a poll.

It's for giving a generalized view of your psyche

You're right, and that's why it's bullshit.
I could tell you "you like it when other people notice your hard work", because I know statistically that's true for just about everybody.
And then I could ask you, "How often do you put effort into your relationships?", and you could give me an answer ranging from 0 to 5 or something.
Lets make an example of you putting down 3.
Right there, I could say "You're a fishmouthpaddywaker, because you often put unnoticed effort into what you do, and appreciate it when people notice."
And you'll be all like "Oh that's so me!!1" And start using the acronym FMPW to describe people who feel the same way.

Just apply that same thing with 16 groups instead of 1 and you got yourself a verified bullshit machine that you can contract out to multi-[insert large denomination] dollar companies and act like that means something.

It might be bullshit if you're looking for recognition of 'who you are' but for the sake of the poll or other big-data applications it's a pretty fuckin' speedy way of getting a view of a large group of people's general way of thinking. It's not magic or voodoo and frankly I don't care about the ins and outs of being a specific type, I just care that it accurately describes me, or at the very least gets a grasp on the core of my personality. As pointed out it might not even do that very well as it can give you confirmation bias in how you read your description.

it accurately describes me

They all accurately describe you.
I'm not going to take the time to count every use of every word, but you can see a lot of repeated uses of vague positive terms like
"Enthusiastic" (Technically anyone between the age of 3 and 65)
"Playful" (lol wut)
"Creative" (Literally everyone I've ever known thinks they're creative)
"Outgoing" (Not everyone is, but the majority is, and all this is is confirmation that you said you were in the majority anyways)

Also, most of the terms used are interchangeable. For example Compassionate, helpful, friendly, seek to be helpful and please others, caring, enjoys being helpful to others; and probably a couple others all mean the same general thing, and are all found on most of the types.

If you took any one of these groups they would all accurately describe you just about as much as "cool dude" does.
