Hello,
my question is: do you remember any classic or modern computer games that allowed or forced the player to use a computer (or maybe play a computer game) inside the world of the game??
I was thinking about the evolution of virtual worlds and how at some point there always will be a loop. I remember, while playing video games as a kid, i always was excited to find a computer in the game world, clicking on it, hoping that i can use the computer, not realising that i already use a computer to play the actual game.
Sorry for the square english but i hope you know what i mean. One example i can think of is Impossible Mission for C64 where the computer is a tool to control the enemy robots. But i think there are also games that have "integrated" computer games, even if its just meant as a joke and not important for solving the game.
Thanks for any hints.

There's an arcade game in Starcraft 2: Wings Of Liberty which is basically a shmup. Other than that I don't think I remember any specific examples.

The classic one is having Maniac Mansion hidden in Day Of the Tentacle. You can't really beat that. Time Gentlemen Please also had a game inside of a game as part of a puzzle but it was pretty limited.

Animal Crossing for GameCube had real games inside it - first you had to acquire a (in-game) console and a cartridge with the game. I remember I managed to obtain carts for Balloon Fight and one other game. These were fully functioning, real games.

Iji has the game “Hero 3D” as a playable game on a terminal on one map, and it's actually not that bad.

If I recall correctly in space quest 4 at the end, you use a computer(like there was a little desktop screen for this bit) to download Leisure Suit Larry onto a super computer to defeat the antogonist I thought that was such an awesome joke hehehe! That game has some the best gags in a game ever imo.
Edit: actually the larry disk brought about the end of humanity and not the thing I said, my bad! But you still had to drag files on a computer to a trash bin near the end of the game which was really neat.

Two examples of game played on a kind of virtual computer desktops, have an optional game in them:
"Her Story" has a board/puzzle game that is somehow relevant to the story "Pony Island" has a shoot'em up.
