For anyone who has develop a successful title or franchise, is there a need to copyright your game? How about trademarking your game's name?

Thank you.

You should probably have a good read about what copyright and trademarks actually are if you are asking this question.

Short answer though coz I'm kind.
- Generally all copyrightable material is automatically copyrighted without you doing anything. Copyright is an opt-out process.
- Trademarks are a more formal way to protect against 'passing-off'. You still have some protection from people imitating your brands without, but a trademark will make it easier to prove.

Super short answer.
- No.

If you don't register your copyright, you won't be able to sue for statutory damages. Check with an IP lawyer.
