I want to make sounds like this from scratch.

What software could I use for that? (Preferably free / low-price one).

I tried BFXR but I couldn't make a sound like that, it makes "rougher" 8-bit console era sound.

If you could also point me to a tutorial for making similar sounds, that would be great.

You *can* make similar sounds in BFXR, just use Sin and low compression, then play with high and low pass filters to get rid of unwanted clipping.

Also that's just reverb and delay on it that's adding some "space" to the effect. you could probably get BFXR to do what you want but you would be better off trying it from scratch in a synth. Almost any basic synthesizer is capable of making those sounds. I'm using Noizefield 4Tune at the moment as it's free, google it, and look up some tutorials on making SFX and you'll get started.

Iv'e also had some luck with Famitracker, it's more for sequencing music but can make some more advanced SFX with it. Once you get your head around it it's quite easy to use and there are plenty of tutorials online.
