Should I make a project on itch.io for my game despite not having any intention of selling through them?

My main concerns are:

  • Is it deceptive or uncouth to make an itch.io project that nobody can buy through itch.io?
  • Are there any licensing issues or contractual obligations I get into by creating an itch.io project?
  • Is the exposure/community from itch.io worth the trouble of having yet another thing to keep on top of?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It all depends on your goal and target audience.

Itch.io, Newsground, Kongregate and portals similares are usefull to test the reception of a game version versus many others games.

If your game has a bad performance there, in other places it can will be even harder.

To some developers, Game portals and Game jams are species of marathons.
