Hi! I've been into making music for some time now, mostly acoustic but recently I've been into making soundtrack-y music so I decided to challenge myself to making music consistently for a month. Everyday I will upload a new track to Soundcloud and post it here.

I'm going to use this thing as an opportunity to get feedback on my music in a pursuit to improve myself through community thoughts and opinions. If anyone have pointers about my composition, mixing, etc I'd be delighted to hear it! I will attach a small description to each track explaining the thoughts behind it and the intended use.

First one I imagine some run-down industrial complex where you have to sneak your way past guards patrolling. I was going for a somewhat tense track to reflect that:

Day 4, String Quartet: https://soundcloud.com/elias-frost/06a
Day 3, Combat Loop: https://soundcloud.com/elias-frost/05rev2
Day 2, NewRetroWave: https://soundcloud.com/elias-frost/03rev2
Day 1, Ambient: https://soundcloud.com/elias-frost/02a

I dig it!  I can definitely picture the scene you imagined, sort of an otherworldly-Ocean's-Eleven vibe.  Keep it up!

Thank you!

Day 2. This one is more new retro wave-y. Possibly some driving game set in a retro 80s future or something, maybe a car chase in a similarly themed game. the only thing missing is some car engine sound at the start but hey:

Nice. "Retro 80s future" is an odd phrase, but I sure hear what you mean, sort of a Tron/light-cycles mood to it. 2 down, 28 to go!

I think you have too much bass in your mixes. Especially the second one is drowning in it.
I'd also like to see more variety. These are very basic and don't really lead anywhere.

6down: Yeah, I was looking for 80's retrofuturism but I didn't find the words at the time.

MESRecords: Thank you! I see what you mean I will be more careful with the bass in the future.
I will keep that in mind for the future. I'm listening to a lot of ambient tracks and looping music so I guess I just fell into that by accident. I will try and make more varied tracks in the future!

Day 3. This one is a bit shorter than the first two. It's a combat loop track. I was picturing a combat scenario in a sci-fi isometric RPG.

Sorry I didn't upload anything the last couple of days, I had to do some client work and didn't get around to make anything.

This one is a bit different though, it's my first time trying to write a string quartet piece. I didn't have a specific scene in mind for this one, I just wanted to try it out.

I don't have any criticism, but I'd rather just encourage you. I also think you should make sure that you are aware that by posting a track a day and limiting your time spent on composition/mixes/what-have-you, you also open yourself up to potentially harsh criticism by people who may not be sensitive to that limiting factor (which is totally fine). However, I think you shouldn't take it too much to heart and instead consider it part of the exercise to help you nourish a more distant perspective of your music. My only advice is keep at it. You will NO DOUBT get better at what you're doing if you do it every single day.

Thank you for the positivity. The way I see it, pushing things out quickly and getting feedback and thoughts on the things I make under pressure is a good way to spot areas where I'm sloppy, because usually the areas where I'm sloppy are the ones I think about last and by pushing things out quickly you guys expose those weaknesses for me and that's great, means I can improve more quickly.

The reason I haven't uploaded anything is I've had a recent influx of job requests. I'll make a new track whenever I have time. ^^

Just as a matter of interest how long are you investing in these tracks each day? Have you set yourself a time limit for each track (e.g. is a day a nominal work day of 8 hours? or are you spending every waking minute at it 12hours +?) It's an ambitious challenge you've set I wish you the best of luck with it. I just spent 4, maybe 5 days on the last track I put together and 2-3 days is a normal turnaround for me. I can't fathom getting a track done and dusted in a day tbh.Interested to see how this goes for you Smiley  I agree with the comment on bass by the way, needs some taming.

I don't have set hours. But most of these took 4-5 hours. The one that took the longest is the combat loop one but that was because most time was spent looking to find the right sounds, it took around 6.

I managed to squeeze another song in today. It's another string composition. Though this one I'm not super happy with as it got a bit sloppy towards the end.

Day 5: The idea was the theme for a small village in a fantasy RPG.
