I started a little game of that not too long ago, streamed it on my Twitch. Hadn't played DF in a while, was really impressed by all the pretty colors of forests with the multi-tile trees! Game went well for a bit, but I was a bit overwhelmed by a huge migration, and got attacked by a werecreature very very quickly after it, so a bunch of new military recruits who didnt even have time to grab their equipment got killed, eep!

Ugh one of my miners went insane because I couldn't provide him with gems and bones for a fey mood. At least he's only melancholic.

IT HAPPENS

anyway i kinda forgot how the water physics and floodgates in this game work so i kinda messed up my well/irrigation "system" and almost drowned one of my miners. it's kinda working now tho.

also i decided to finally use dwarf therapist because i lack the strength to manage jobs ingame.

I know, but it was like my first and best miner. I'll assign some fisherdwarves instead I guess :/

Edit: OF COURSE NOW I WOULD HIT GARNET

i have two gelders in my fort thanks to migration. yes i have two dwarves whose who are professionals at castrating animals. clearly only the finest of the finest, the cream of the crop so to speak, come to my amazing fort.

edit: oops dwarf therapist isn't compatible with this version yet.

also idk if i'll even need a lot of farming. i'm in a warm biome with a bunch of peach trees and i've been getting by fine brewing peach cider and using fish for food. k time to start up my military now.

is it just me or has dwarf AI been changed since i last played to basically never interrupt repeating jobs for other stuff? i have to cancel all of my mason's workshop tasks to get him to build buildings which is kinda annoying.

PROTIP: you can get bones easily by butchering one of your animals

I know that, but I had no hope of getting gems so I figured I wouldn't butcher an animal for no reason. Also no butcher shop.

oh right. well a butcher shop shouldnt take long to construct. just give one of your immigrant dorfs the butchery labor and build the shop. also build a tanner shop along with it so you can get some leather as well (your tanner should automatically tan the hide of a butchered animal).

also i just found out that more experienced miners don't produce less materials anymore and it's been that way for a long time. i feel dum.

Oh hey I avoided the fate of another fey mood child by providing everything the miner desired and it turns out providing everything was really easy

Ok so I haven't had any goblin attacks yet but I was randomly attacked by a were-iguana before i could even set up a military. Slaughtered 5 or 6 of my dorfs at once. Moment of silence please.

Oh my god my whole fortress is starving and I 'm trying to leverage this by preparing fish but NONE OF MY FISHERDWARVES WILL STOP FISHING AT THE RIVER!!!

I'll just make my farmers prepare the fish then.

disable the fishing labor on some of them. fishing and fish processing or watever it's called are separate labors.

Edit: also if you have some fruit trees close to your fort you can build some stepladders and designate a gathering/harvesting zone around them after which your dwarves will start automatically putting up the ladders and harvesting the fruit. i have a grove of peach trees in front of my fort and i hardly need any farming at all. everyone's eating peaches and getting drunk on peach cider.  Toast Left

Step ladders it is then.

I tried disabling the fishing labor btw, and it didn't work, they just keep fishing. Doing that doesn't seem to interrupt the current fishing.

why are my masons so slow? after my unfortunate run-in with the night creature, i ordered some coffins to bury the dead. my dead guys were almost rotted before my 3 (three) masons finished those coffins. watta heck.
