One of my dwarves was struck by melancholy (yet again) and he went into the tomb I built for him randomly. I simply locked the doors until he died so as to make sure he wouldn't cause any trouble.

Also because I'm bad at it tho

Dunno, these days I find "winnable" games more depressing. After that (anti)climax you get to ponder how empty and scripted the journey really was.

you literally can't win it lol, it's an open ended game.

why is this game so depressing?

it's as depressing as a game about a group of alcoholics who live in an underground cave system ought to be

asking why dorf fort is depressing is like asking why mario party is happy and cheerful. IT JUST IS.

tbh im actually kinda enjoying this without dwarf therapist. i don't really try to minmax my skills at all and just give needed labors to whoever has a useless profession like gelder or fish cleaner. that's how i played before i used dwarf therapist as well. actually i find that playing a heavy simulation game like this using the "naive approach" is more fun than minmaxing.

hahahah great <3

tho what really happened was, a dwarf who had been missing for a while turned up dead (he died from dehydration). idk what exactly happened to him. so anyway that mechanic was the spouse of that dead dwarf and went into shock when the news broke. so, uh, actually pretty sad. RIP.

this is actually one of the most death filled DF games i've ever had considering that it's only been 3 ingame years. i had those two werebeasts turn up and wasn't well prepared. i'm not even sure if any of my surviving dwarves have been bitten, but if they have, then there's probably going to be more carnage down the line. :/

EDIT: for reference, this is what my graveyard currently looks like

the 0s are all coffins

A giant slug has invaded my fortress. I am preemptively building a bunch of coffins.

Edit: I killed it!!!

It killed my woodcutter without provocation. Also, it was a titan or something?

did it have a unique name and a popup announcement message? then it was a titan. otherwise your dorfs probably accidentally aggroed it somehow.

you were lucky you got a soft mushy slug titan tbh. some titans are almost impossible to kill, particularly those made of metal.

My game is starting to feel slow. Is this what people call FPS death?

If it's the case I might try breaching the caverns for some FUN Smiley

the game does get slower as your fort gets bigger, yes. it's a very cpu intensive game due to all the simulation crap going on and not super well optimized. in fact it doesn't even run natively on 64 bit architectures and toady is only now porting it over.

Wow, that is super not adequate lol

I guess that's what we get for playing a game made by one guy
