Phew, DONE! FINALLY!!!
Jet Stream ReMix - Distant Thunder
https://soundcloud.com/paul-levasseur-2/jet-stream-remix-distant-thunderI know that for Glyph, he has a particular approach to composition. Given my background, I am diverse and eclectic in my approach so I decided to have some fun with this project and place some limitations on myself, just to even the playing field. The arrangement started as 'imagine if Hiroki Kikuta was to arrange Jet Stream for Secret of Mana, how would he do it'. At risk of becoming derivative, I decided to keep a bit longer of a leash on myself, just so that there was some of 'me' in the project as well. I think this is most notable in terms of chord changes. I've never thought Kikuta is particularly strong with his middle ground, whereas Uematsu and Mitsuda are far more capable in this regard. So, I decided to be more interesting with this particular parameter.
I tried my best to respect the polyphonic limits of the SNES throughout the arrangement but toward the end, I was rushing to finish. It should all be playable by a legit console though!!
In terms of form, this arrangement is a bit bass ackwards where I don't actually state the theme in its entirety until the very end of the arrangement. I opted for quite a rich and dense orchestration for the first half of the piece but it opens up and is a lot more simple, straight forward, and tuneful at the end. There will be motifs from Jet Stream throughout the arrangement, but the pay off is the almost direct quote at the very end of the project!
Glyph, if you can link to Jet Stream, that would be cool.
